The -5 V requirement for ATX supplies was dropped after V1.3. It was used primarily for the old legacy ISA slots - though not exclusively. If you test any contemporary supply made in the last few years if will show a -5 V failure because it just ain't there! Unless you had a really old MB, the supply is probably fine. Look at the 20 or 24 pin MB connector and if there is no line where the -5 would be ( pin 18 ) then you have no problem.

How to check power suply?

Good day!!!!

If you need to know if your problem is on the power supply board..

This is the steps on how to determine..

  1. Open the back cover.
  2. Power supply of LCD should have 5vdc for the main board,12vdc or 16vdc for the audio and 24vdc for the inverter board..
  3. Place your multimeter (range in DC) to Ground for black test probe and red for the 5vdc,12vdc/16vdc and 24vdc.
  4. if your power supply don't have output voltage you power supply is defective.
  5. Please check if you have shorted diode,transistors..Open/change value resistors and also look for any bulged on the top capacitors..If you found any please replace it only with the same type, ratings and value.
I hope this solution will be helpful..

Thanks for using fixya...

Hello,

Check the power supply; look for bad caps with leaking/bulging tops, check to see if you have standby +5vdc at the power supply connector, the front red indicator will not be on if you do not have this +5vdc standby voltage due to shorted out power transistor and zener diode...if otherwise, Your power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Wont turn on

Hello,

Common problem with this TV is the power supply module.
Check the power supply; look for bad caps with leaking/bulging tops, check to see if you have standby +5vdc at the power supply connector, the front red indicator will not be on if you do not have this +5vdc standby voltage due to shorted output..If otherwise power supply board just die.It can be dead at anytimes.Tries websites Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

I plug in my tv with a 125v cable my tv and nothing happens.

Good day!Follow this D.I.Y procedures to find the exact problem of your TV.
  1. Remove the back cover of your TV.
  2. After that, find the power supply board.
  3. If you already found the power supply,plug-in your TV and power it ON.Check the input voltage of it,using multimeter (AC range). If the power supply have no input voltage the problem could be the power cord.Replace it.
  4. If the power supply have the input voltage, try to test the output voltage if have 5vdc for the system and logic supply,12vdc for the sounds and 24vdc for the back-light inverter.Use your multimeter tester (DC range) to test that.
  5. If the power supply have a voltage outputs such as 5vdc,12vdc and 24vdc and the problem is still there. The problem could be the main board.Replace it with the same type and model # because the main board is no very difficult to fix and its very sensitive.
  6. If the power supply have no output voltage or the voltage is too low, just ignore the step # 5 because the problem is not on the main board, its on the power supply board.
Check the following to fix the power supply board:
  • Fuse: Check the fuse if it is busted or blown.
  • Power transistor (regulator): Check the regulator if it is shorted or leak.
  • Resistor: Check the resistors specially the one that have a low resistance that near the power regulator.
  • Capacitor: Also check the capacitors if it is leak or bulging top.
NOTE: If you found any defective parts or components that mention above replace it with the same value, type and ratings.

I hope this solution will be helpful.Thank you and good luck.

TV won't turn on. Is there a fuse that needs replacing?

Good day!

When the TV is not turning ON it doesn't mean that there's a busted fuse inside although it have a possibility. There are a lot of causes to be considered.Like shorted transistors, leak capacitors open resistors and shorted diode.

Follow this D.I.Y procedures to find the exact problem of your TV.
  1. Remove the back cover of your TV.

Good day!

This are the steps to find and fix that problem.

  1. Open the cover of your TV.
  2. Disconnect the input supply of system board or main board that comes from the power supply unit.
  3. Power ON the TV to check the voltage reading of disconnected connector to the input of system board by using voltmeter.
  4. Check the 5vdc and 12vdc by using voltmeter. If you got voltage reading of 5vdc and 12vdc,try to connect the input connector of the system board and check the voltage again. If no voltage when you connect it.There's a shorted parts on your system board.Replace the whole system board because its very difficult and expensive to repair it.
  5. When the input voltage of system board doesn't have 5vdc and 12vdc even disconnected on the board. The problem is on power supply.
Check the following:
  • Fuse-Check the fuse if busted.
  • Transistor and diode-Check the transistor and diode if shorted.
  • Resistor-Check the resistor if open/change value.
  • Capacitor-Check the capacitor if leak/bulge on top.
If you found the defective parts that mention above.Replace it with the same type and ratings.
NOTE:If the following parts are OK and the problem is still there. The power supply have major problem and its not for D.I.Y..

Thank you and good luck

Insignia ns-lcd32

Bubulica2000,

There is two reasons to have no display on your screen.
1.LCD panel itself is deffective.
2.Main board(mother board is Deffective)

How to recoganize the problem?

There is 5VDC going from main board to LCD invertor ( different model different pin so I am not able to tell which pin or Jack is)
Check while unit is ON mode it should read in between 3VDC to 5 VDC.If this volt is correct your LCD panel is Deffective. If no voltage appear in this pin Simply change Main board(mother board)

Dont forget to rate!!
