"Mad"-spinnig CPU's fan and turbo-sound

Hello, everyone. I'd appreciate greatly any advice about the following problem. I've had a Dell Dimension 5150 for about 2 years now, and about a couple of month the CPU's cooling fan started behaving strangely. From time to time it starts to spin as mad with terrifying turbine engine sound that one can hear when traveling on a plane. The problem is obviously intermittent (“come and go”) , and I can’t spot any pattern or regularity. It could happen after 2-3 minutes after powering the PC on, or after a couple of hours working on it. I tried the cold reboot; it didn’t solve the problem. It seems that the “mad” spinning accompanied by the “turbo” sound happens more often now.
What shall I try to fix it? I found an article about a similar problem (Computing.Net forum) , and one of the replays read that changing the fan (ordering new one from Dell) hadn’t solved the problem. Help!

Just repaired this prob. on my mom's 5100. You have a bad cooling fan in your power supply. This is a $4 part but to do it yourself you have to be up for some mech. dis. and reassembly. Here's the link to the part:

You'll need to power the comp. down, remove the side cover, unscrew the power supply box from the rear, open it, unscrew the fan, remove it, clip the red and blk. wires, splice/sotter the new fans' leads to them, reinstall the fan and reassemble all parts.

Hope this helps,

No video on computer and no beep indicating a problem with the video

Maybe the memory you installed is bad. I would put everything back the way it was before you put in the additional memory and see what happens. If it works, then one of the memory chips you just purchased is bad or not compatible with your model.

My DELL Dimension 5150 fan is making a great noise, how can I fix it?

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the side-panel.
Buy a can of compressed-air, and give your computer a "blow-job" to remove dust from "everywhere", including the fan(s).

If you still get noise, then it's time to replace the fan.
Take the computer to any computer-store, so that they can sell you a new fan that matches the current fan.

Dell Dimension 5150 will not start!

This is related to Hardware.

There might be a lose Ram of data cable connection on Motherboard.

This type of issue is also seen when the there is dust accumulation on Process Fan and CPU fan resulting in over heating.

This might also be due to malfunction of a motherboard.

The third reason could be that SMPS his not working.

Noise from unknown source

Grrrrrrr - Could be CD running, Could be Fan on the CPU, which if not fixed will kill you main chip, could be power supply fan, check in the back and see if fan is turning consistanly ( I think that is how you spell that) If you know how to remove covers, take side off and look at fan on the CPU or other fans and when you hear the Grrrrrrr se if you can tell where it is comong fro, also some hard drives will make a sound as they get older.. Good luck....
