My 4yr old samsung 30" tv has problem with component inputs.

my 4 1/2-yr old samsung tv has a problem with the component inputs. i tried using both component inputs, with different cables, to hook up my samsung dvd player - no picture/sound. i made sure the tv settings were pointing to the relevant input, but still nothing. any ideas?
