Screen Gone Blank

My Creative Nomad Jukebox 30GB has a medical problem. The problem it has is the screen is blank or very light that you can hardly read it. Is there an easy fix for this?

Re: Screen Gone Blank

LCD is soldered onto the board. Meaning the difficulties of replacing the LCD will be there, not to say it would not be possible. But for about the same price (my guess by looking on ebay), you could get a used Zen Xtra (without a hdd) for about $30 or less. After you get a new board you could replace your player with the new used one, making use of your old hdd

Here is a link to the Creative Mediasource software for the Zen Nomad

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click agree. This will start the download. Then run the program on your computer and you should be able to manage your Zen with this software. Let me know if it works.

Blank screen

I had the same problem with a blanked screen after a drop. I was able to get it back by disassembling the unit and GENTLY pushing down at the top of the LCD. Apparently it stopped making a good connection when I dropped it.. whew! I've seen a number of comments about the same issue; hopefully this will help.

I modded my unit as well with a larger hard drive, so I didn't want to send it in to Creative for repair...

My Creative Nomad Jukebox III will not start. At best, I can get to the EAX screen: this is accompanied by some whirring and clicking (HDD activity?) and then it freezes. On one occasion, it got past this...

I had a failed JB III that acted the same way. I thought it was the hard drive, but turns out it was the motherboard in the player. I bought a used one on EBAY, then transferred my old HDD to the new one (the JB III uses a standard notebook hard drive).

If you're not worried about losing your songs, you can remove the HDD, get a PATA-to-USB external HDD adapter (less than $10 on sale), and reformat the drive, and test the drive to make sure it's sound. If it is, then you have a new portable hard drive. Unfortunately, your JB III is now an empty shell.

This article explains how to perform the "operation" on the internal hard drive: LINK

Display fried

If it's a dark teardrop, then the LCD is broken. If it's just blank, then you may need to reseat your screen, which will require you to completely disassemble your unit and will void your warranty.

Nomad Jukebox 3 Hard drive

If you dropped the player and the screen is not displaying but the player still works, you can use the Creative software to get the music off in most cases.

If you don't get anything when you plug in the player, chances are the hard drive is damaged.

I've had success reviving players with 'blank' screens just by disassembling the units and gently pressing on the top of the LCD panels to reseat them. The connection must be VERY minimal.
