DVD/CD rom not recognizing data disks

My DVD/RW drive is able to play DVDs, but will not recognize music or (more importantly) program disks. Any ideas?
It's a HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-H21L. If that means anything to you.

- Gave it a try. End result: >> Required action: The wizard found problems but cannot fix them -> None

- Have you tried a restore point prior to the occurence of the problem so that you can revert to it with the Windows System Restore function?
