Hold down the roll/media button and the info button while turning on, wait about 10 seconds and release roll/info buttons. You should get an S in the upper right corner. That puts you in service mode. Push menu then scroll down to maintenance then right arrow to head replacement. To get out of service mode turn off.

Re: canon ipf8000 error code
Go into service mode by holding the paper select and info button. turn on printer wait for an s to appear in the top right corner of the screen. let it continue to boot until it stops on its own even if it is another error. then turn off and reboot normal this time. If it still has the error E161 403E, then replace the head and do it again. This time go through the process to change the head, answering the questions the machine asks. If that doesnt resolve then change the carriage relay pcb. If that doesnt solve sell it kick yourself in the butt for buying the print head and the carriage relay pcb.

This is a printhead error
Remove the Printhead(s), clean the contacts, and replace in printer . Run nozzle check and try to print.
If you are able to print a few pages then get the same error, the Printhead will need to be replaced.
The hardware error code indicates that a print head failure has been detected. Other possible causes of this error are a faulty cable connection to either one of the PCB's. First try replacing the Print Heads and if the problem persist, re-seat the cabling to the Relay PCB and the Carriage Unit PCB. Since you are unable to access service mode, you will need to ignore the normal print head replacement procedure and replace the printheads whilst the plotter is turned off. The plotter will need to be disassembled to access the print head. See the following service manual for a detailed guide: http://mail.davin.be:8888/CANON/BOOK%20IPF/IPF750/ipf750_755-sm.pdf
That's a strange error for that machine, a network error? I would try removing the printhead and see if the error changes to printhead not installed, could just be a defective printhead which can cause strange errors.
I have had two of my Canon plotters give this error.message, I had to manually move the carriage unit and replace the printhead. On one of the plotters the error message returned, on the second plotter I was able to go into service mode where it asked me to replace the printhead. I just went though the motions since the printhead was brand new and I was able to get the plotter to function correctly.
