-   in addition to what is listed previously, I have restarted my computer, and verified my volume settings through control panel... still I have no volume control, nor do I have any visual clue that volume level is changing (green lines, nor speaker icon).-   honeybee5200

Sometime when You use the Volume control panel in the accessories pane on the start menu, the bars will not show up. THere is no real solution for this, it is just a glitch, it works when it wants to, my advice, is just restart the computer and see if it fixes the problem.
