No picture at all!!! :(

Hi guys i have had this tv for about 6 years and its worked perfectly untill about 2 weeks ago.

Theres no picture at all, no menu comes up, but there is still audio. Whats the most common thing that could have happened?

do you recommend i open it up and check for loose connections, or should i just call a qualified technician to take a look, any ideas on the price for a fix?

Re: No picture at all!!! :(

Hello ramis,

The symptoms you have described could indicate a problem with the HV section of the TV that supplies voltage to the CRTs (RGB Tubes) if this is the case I would suggest that you let a qualified TV technician work on the problem.

Red spot on screen

Got the same problem with same TV (PT-61-LCX65) that was bought 4 years go in 2006 - first red spot appeared, then few weeks ago got green one nearby. Fixed it for free.
I called Panasonic using the phone number in the manual (1-888-843-9788), selected Service, told that I got the problem which is most probably "a manufacturer's defect" that should be fixed for free - they redirected me to next step, then to next one and in about 20 minutes they arranged me a home-visit by support person (the guy had to drive 2 hours to get here!). Every thing went _very_ smoothly, I am very satisfied with Panasonic's support, it was just one call with few redirections.
The service guy came in two days, unscrewed back panel, connected some kind of box to one of the boards (eeprom programmer?), turned TV onto some channel and let the box do its job for about 5 minutes - then all of a sudden spots disappeared and picture is OK now. The service guy told me that the overall picture quality should have also improved all across the screen, I guess TV sends some kind of feedback to that box for optimization.
It was free service, the service guy mentioned something about law action and that Panasonic is required to fix that for free.

Power but no picture or sound

Actually, it seems the the ballast might have got damaged. This seems more like a ballast issue, it's easy to fix, plus ballasts run around 60 dlls.

The green is taking over all the color on the tv

I have the same TV which had the same issue ( green in picture ) - back on 10/2007. I called Sony. They had their technician replace the optical box ( factory defect ). There was no charge for the repair even though TV was out of first year of warranty. Call Sony.

Glitchy power

Clearly your TV is shutting down due to a problem. Based on your description, it's hard to tell if you have a vertical or convergence failure. What do you mean by "waving" line ?

Blue spots on my tv

when i was in college for electrical/electronics we fixed a tvs in lab that had the same problem
the same problem can be caused by holding a permanent magnet to the screen of the tv this causes the problem
the fix of the problem is to build/buy an electromagnet that u can plug into your wall outlet, then wave the electromagnet around the screen say 6 inches away from the screen making sure demagnetize the affected areas. u can buy an elctromagnet that opperates on 120v ac electricity at radio shack. do not use a DC electromagnet that will make the problem worse.
u can find out how to build an electromagnet off of the internet by googleing "how stuff works"
