DVD's are made in different region codes as they are intended to be played on specific types of DVD players. As far as I am aware there is no way to change the region code of a DVD.
However, your DVD player maybe able to bypass the region code through a type of "hack"; you might search online for your specific DVD player.
A DVD drive on your computer may also be able to play the DVD although you may need to further research specific software players. You should be able to find some freeware that would enable you to play your DVD on your computer assuming your drive can read DVD's.
Another option is to buy a region-free (also known as an all-region) DVD player. Although they are a bit more expensive than a regular DVD player, region-free means you never have to worry about software fixes or trying to reconfigure your current DVD player. Online sellers abound the most well known probably including Amazon and YesAsia (a site that specializes to selling Asian merchandise overseas).
Hope this helps, I was a little vague in places. Basically you can't change the DVD so much as the DVD player.
1. Go to Setup.
[from remote] 2. Select the Preference Page.
3. Press 1, 3, 8, 9, 3, 1 on the Philips DVD Player remote.
--> It will show current region code [ for example 5 ] 4. Now Press the up/down key to select "0" which makes it region free.
5. Press ok and exit setup.
Probably the same would be applicable for 3258, 3268, 3986.
Australian players are designed only to play Region 4 discs. United States discs are Region 1. It is illegal to change the Region code on a DVD player, so I can't tell you how to do it (ironically, it is the most frequently asked question about dvd players on Fixya.com - global world), but there are videos on YouTube that will show you how to do it - I would just enter "philips region code dvd" as your seacrh term. You won't find that exact model, but one of the codes in the video should work. Note that you will only be able to change the region code three times on a Philips - after that you will be locked out. So change it to Region 1 once, and never change it again.
This is not possible without bypasssing/cracking the firmware on your DVD player. your player will generally allow 3 changes to the region code. If you have not changed yet, you may do so within the DVD player's setup options.
