I had just added a new keyboard to a Dell desktop machine and was doing just fine until my finger touched what I can only describe as a power (standby) button and the machine appeared to go on stand by. Repeated attempts to reboot the machine failed and after pressing F2 I discovered that the Hard Drive was listed as "Not installed". How do I seek to correct this this situation?
This could be coincidental but there are some things you can try. First of all turn off the computer and remove the battery. Then remove the hard drive and re-seat it. If this doesn't work then you need to have the HDD checked out to make sure it's bad (which is most likely is). You probably need a new hard drive but these are the steps to make sure. Feel free to check out www.inovagent.com if you need help.
1. It happen to me one time with my acer aspire, but since the warranty of life top expired already, what I deed is that I open up the back where my hard disk is located, I just remove it and and after 5 mionutes re-attached it again then i turn on the laptop and it works again.
this is only advisable if you know how to access your hard disk and if it's warranty is lapsed already.

I just installed Ubuntu 9 in an IBM Thinkpad T20 as the single OS and none of my devices (Netgear WPN511 pcmcia wireless adapter in particular) will install. Is there an alternative set of drivers for Ubuntu or Linux? Or am I missing something completely?

This is the error that comes up when booting up - 0175 Bad CRC1 Stop POST task. Previous to this error, a note would appear that I could safely remove the CD/DVD drive - I never initiated this command - perhaps I should have paid more attention. thanks (Thinkpad 2647-4AU)
