- I found a solution that involves doing a reset, turn off power (unplug), hold down cancel and right arrow buttons. While holding buttons, plug in printer, it will power on. Keep holding buttons for a while until either S appears on screen or you go back to the align message. Press OK and alignment goes fine.
Other hint, if you get repeated align or check cartridge messages, take cartridges out and look below them to see if there is a built up pile of gooey ink. If so, this can be causing problems. Get chopstick or something similar and carefully dig out the ink sludge. This gets the pile of sludge out of the way so it does not clog the ink nozzles.
take out the cartrdiges from the printer and then clean the contact points on the back of the cartridges. then unplug the power cable from the back of the printer and then press and hold down the color copy and cancel button at the same time. and then plug back the power cable back into the printer. try to power on the printer and insert the cartridges one by one into the printer.

This works as does doing a reset...unplug, hold down cancel and right arrow while plugging in...keep holding until reset occurs, several minutes.
