Toshiba laptop A205-S4639 satellite

1) ALL power removed. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) Turn the laptop over bottom side up, Battery Compartment facing AWAY from you, down on a table.
You may wish to lay a soft Static free cloth on the table, to prevent scratching the table, or laptop.

3) Take this cover off,

Remove the Ram Memory module/s. ('Stick')
Lay them/it carefully aside. Handle by the BODY. The Body is everywhere on the Ram Memory module, EXCEPT the gold plated contact pins at the bottom.

The Body is coated with a see-through protective plastic.

4) Remove this Philips head screw, and push the optical drive out,

The top of the optical drive will have small Philips head screws, or Torx screws. They sell Torx screwdrivers real cheap,

Remove the screws, remove the cover, remove the disk.

possible setting issue.
If you Go to,
start, control panel, power options, (classic view)
have a look in the power options there, set as needed. there is a few, check them all out.

use disc cleanup,defragmenter, delete temp internet files, in tools on menu bar , delete history,

update the Operating system at Microsoft.
update virus protection and run a full scan.

you should be good if no hardware problems.

You can download any/all the Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page.
Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers.

it's being quite a long time since i solved my problem, so don't remember the details.
but I remember to have downloaded the drivers from Toshiba's site, filtering with the exact notebook model and XP drivers.
hope you get lucky

Run a virus check, get a free one from download.com, also check that the lid isn't faulty, if you move it slightly while working it could indicate whether there is faulty wiring or screen. Also check that your graphics drivers are up to date, eve if the laptop is a month old, the drivers may have since been updated and depending on what programmes you are running an update may be reqired.
