Generic problem for all Scanners

I have hooked up my HP 4280 to scan and it continues to tell me the the USB cable is not hooked up. I have rechecked the cable and attempted this on 2 of my laptops. The USB must be attached as I am able to print.
PLEASE Help

yes, tried it on two laptops HP 4280 all in one printer, tried two cables and even the store gave me a new printer...
all I can say ... 4280 and the support of hp is crap. I still got a printer that does not connect to a computer.
Avoid buying HP!

My computer has suddenly decided that my Mustek A3 scanner isn't connected. I've checked all the cables and they're fine.

My problem is virtually identical. After several reboots and re-installs of the software, the scanner works only intermittently and with great delay. Printer says "USB not connected".
