Question about Garmin StreetPilot C330 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Won't set to a new location

We left home in Montana in our new truck which has a gps, so the Garmin was in the suitcase turned off for two weeks. When we unpacked it to use in our other car in California, the garmin would not work properly. When we try to enter the state, we get as far as C and it selects Connecticut, and will not let us enter California. We upgraded the software in October, and have tried a basic reset. We really would like to get this operational. Any suggestions?

T tried it ...no change. If I try to put in the State, California, I get as far as C and it offers Connecticut...no other opitons available, and will not accept any more input. The unit thinks we are in Illinois and we have never been there. Any ideas?

    Hi,

thanks for trying to help I have tried the reset button and also the master reset. I also held down the lower right corner until the white screen came on with little balcke dots that moved and asked you to touch them on the screen. I did this and left the gps on for an hour and when I checked it , it said ready to navigate. when I went to the main screen and tried to put in a location the state showing is Idaho. I try to put in California, but as soon as I enter C it goes to Connecticut., no other C states allowed. It does allow Oregon, Montana, North and South Dakota, Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Utah, Iowa, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Minnesota..etc. Texas and Florida and not there or colorado.

This is very strange. At one point it asked me if I was in California and I said yes...

I just can't figure this out!

    Hi,

It does find our current location and it acquires satellites.

  • Cheyenne104 Jan 13, 2008

I have done the master reset and I have done the callibration. Neither one of those solved the problem. i do feel it is a software problem and am intrigued by your latest solution. I have gone on Garmin's site and reloaded the street pilot 330-570 program. I had a new disk when I upgraded. I believe we paid about $65. for the upgrade, but unfortunately I did not bring it with me. Can I check map source without it?

    same issues

I have the identical problem. My home state is MA and is working fine. I'm in North Carolina; satellite is working, recognizing local area but I cannot select the state to enter an address. When I try to type in North Carolina, it pops up with 3 choices, North Dakota, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia. I've reset the system and there was no improvement. I had paid for and downloaded the newest City Navigator 2009 from Garmin's website, and as this is the first use I've had in a new area, I don't know whether the problem existed before the download.

Remove the faceplate and you will see the reset button (right side). There is an indentation under the word GARMIN which you can use a finger nail to help lift the faceplate. Try resetting the Garmin.

You can also try doing a master reset. This will cause all data to be lost (recent finds, POI, waypoints).

Turn the unit off and place a finger on the lower right corner, now turn on the power keep your finger on the lower right corner and the following screen will appear.

Answer Yes. This will erase all user data. Now restart the unit.

Also does the unit keep time? Does the unit acquire satellites? Does it find your current location? Your battery could also be dead which will cause the Garmin to lose all its current settings and it will be like starting out all over every time you turn the unit on.

  • audiqv8 Jan 13, 2008

You got into the screen calibration setting. With the unit off place a finger on the lower right corner and power the unit on. Once the unit comes on release the power button, but keep your finger on the lower right corner and it will take you to the master reset menu. By holding the power button on you got into the calibration mode.

When you upgraded the software in October, I'm assuming that you upgraded the maps. Perhaps when selecting the maps you didn't include California as part of the selection. Use mapsource to determine which maps are loaded onto the Garmin.

Start Mapsource on you computer and connect the Garmin through the USB cable. Use the Transfer from the menu to determine which maps are loaded.

Since the unit can acquire satellites, then I would suggest that you try driving around your neighborhood with the unit on and see if it can track roads. Then try driving on the highway and see if it can track the highway. It should be able to track along highways since this is part of the basemap. Local streets are part of mapsource maps. Try reinstalling the maps.

Also to answer your question "yes" you need to install your maps before mapsource will work.

Your unlock code for the upgrade is registered with Garmin. Call Garmin support and request a replacement disk for the upgrade.

Once you receive the disk from Garmin go to Garmin's website to retrieve your unlock code. Reinstall all maps onto your Garmin and it should work.

Unlock gps 760 garmin ilost the 4 pin number

The only way to do it is to go to the location you set as "home" in the GPS. When you are at that location, the GPS will not ask you for a PIN and you can then go in and change the PIN.

If you don't know what the home location is, you'll need to contact Garmin http://www.garmin.com

There are so many of these being stolen from vehicles, the PIN is designed to make the unit useless to thieves.

Good luck!

Gps won,t move from last location

When you put in a new location how are you entering it? If you are using the "Where to?" menu then you will need to click on the "Map" button instead of GO when you find the point you are looking for, may it be an address or a Point of Interest. This will show the location on the map. If you want that to be your current location you must have the GPS turned off. Then on some units you will Have the option to set as your current location.

I hope this was some help.
Cheers

Default state changing

If you are talking about your home location all you have to do is go to your TOOLS / MY DATA / SET HOME LOCATION. You can then set your HOME location to anywhere you want. This is the only default location I am aware of. If this isn't what you were looking for let me know and I can dig into it.

I just got my new Garmin 205. I set home to

Give this a try.

To Delete/Change your “Home” location, you can go to favorites, tap on home, tap edit, and then tap on "Delete" which will allow you to reset the location in the original dialog. Just tap the Home button again from the favorites menu, and the Nuvi will walk you through the dialog again.

Garmin etrex screen too dim to read

I have an older Garmin 12XL and suddenly the screen turned very dark. I tried replacing the batteries and let the GPS rest for a week so the internal lithium battery could re-charge. But that did not work. I just got an email from a friend who had the same problem... it turned out that his unit had changed the screen contrast setting all by its' self.
This may not be the cause of your problem but it's worth trying... go into your "Settings" menu and reset the contrast and see if that cures the problem. Good luck.

To reset, you have to go to the home location. That is the security location.

The only other solution to unlock this model GPS is to send it to Garmin with the proof of purchase. They are the only ones who can unlock your GPS. If you read the instruction booklet that came with the GPS, they expain the same thing I am indicating here. Call the Garmin support for details.
