Most washers made today are cold fill only, and designed to work as such, however, if you a hot and cold fill washer, all you need to do is fit a "Y" piece to the hot and cold hoses, and connect the straight leg of the fitting to the cold main water inlet valve to the washer.
This will let in cold water regardless of which prog you select.
