Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Liftmaster opener acting strange

My liftmaster 1/2hp Security+ started acting strange today. It will open or close only about a foot and then it stops or sometimes reverses. Very strange. I know it's not the sensors at the bottom of the door, because that's how I got it up, by sticking my hand in the path of the sensor so it would go up (A little bit at a time). Any help would be very much appreciated. It is a lift master 1/2hp security+ ,chain drive with a model # of 1265LM and a control panel # of 41A5021E.

Thanks

Rick

    Hi AvioriX,
I must have forgotten to mention that my model of Liftmaster Garage door opener doesn't have a wireless keypad. But the good news is the problem has appeared to resolve on its own. Maybe the fact that it was 1 degree here last night when it started acting up had something to do with it. Anyway, thanks for your help :)

Hi Rick

I believe best and safest solutions is resetting and re-programming the system. here is the instruction manual link;
http://www.hooverfence.com/catalog/entry_systems/lift_master/976lm-manual.pdf

Also you can call the hotline (1-800-528-2817) of the manufacturer for the step by step reset and re-program the system

Good Luck

How do you stop the door leaving a foot open at the bottom?

To stop the door in a partially open position, the button on the wall switch or remote should be pulsed when the door is opening from the fully closed position.

My liftmaster will open with the remote but to close the door, we have to hold down the wall unit. It starts to close, jerks to a stop, then we have to press and hole the button and it closes.

Hi, it is probably the safety photo beams out of alignment or not working, when this happens the garage opener goes into 'dead man' operating mode, ie you need to keep the button pressed for the door to operate. My liftmaster garage opener started today with only closing part way and opening part way. What can be causing this? Thanks

FIRST - pull the cover off and see if you have shredded white plastic inside.

IF YES - replace the drive gear set.

IF NO - lube & adjust the traveler / chain & door spring.

The owners manual has a good diagnostic section - available at liftmaster.com

Hope this helps

If the opener feels any resistance it will act like this.Make sure that the rollers on the door to frame are oiled well and turn easily, move in and out easily as well, you can also turn the screw to increase the resistance stop pressure.Oil the rollers well
