I'm needing a driver for my FE-280

It says it is unable to find a camera connected to the USB ports. Any idea where I could find a driver to help this or is it another problem?

I have Vista and get an error message saying that the FE-280 can't be found even though i have updated the software and got the camera connected and a message sying that the driver was successfully loaded

Thanks for your note BUT... I have already done all this previously. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled the software from the link you gave. I have wasted 2 hours paid $10US and am still no further on

  • jim_ijn Jan 04, 2008

ps - I read the whole manual - the only thing that seems to be wrong in Vista is the [MTP] setting. However, I don't seem to be able to work out what that is or how to access it - the Manual says press > after selecting "OK" Step 3 in the download instrustions but nothing happens

  • jim_ijn Jan 04, 2008

The information I have received so far is in the manual which i have read and it didn;t work - that;s why I paid the money

  • jim_ijn Jan 04, 2008

    Hi Pasha,
    Thank you for your note.
Yes, I followed all the instructions in the manual. I had already done so previously. THe camera is neither recognised by the Master 2 program or as a Mass Storage device.
    Kind regards,
    Jim
PS As a matter of interest, which may be very relevant, I don't seem to be able to get USB Memory Sticks to work either unless they are over 1Gb - I have an ASUS twin processor 166Ghz (Intel T5500's) running Vista Ultimate (32 bit)
The big issue is that my daughter has run out of room on her camera and we are in the USA (live in Australia and not going back for a month)
I would greatly appreciate a solution!!!
    Thanks again,
    Jim

  • jim_ijn Jan 04, 2008

    Yhank you for trying Pasha,
I am obviously baffled by this, but unfortunately I had already tried everything you said plus the Mass Storage.
    Thanks again
    Kind regards,
    Jim

Hi,

If I may add to pasha19"s post...

Quick possible alternatives:
1. Use a memory card reader to read the memory stick of the camera; or
2. Use another PC that runs XP to download the pictures. Burn to a CD or move to a flashdrive; or
3. Use a USB hub. Try front and rear (other) USB ports of Vista PC.

Re the Vista PC:
1. Update the USB drivers of your PC's motherboard. Try getting them from the Asus website and not Microsoft; or
2. Apparently you are having issues with the USB motherboard drivers not your external USB device driver. Delete/Uninstall all the USB hardware in your Device Manager. Reboot, all will be autodetected and auto reinstalled.

Vista has been known to have issues with USB. Microsoft has posted several updates/patches/fixes, pls. see this link.

Hope that this be of additional help. Pls post back how things turned up.

Good luck and kind regards.

To read the manual you will need Adobe Reader (free)
If needed, use the Get Adobe Reader Button on the following link
http://www.adobe.com

Instruction Manual from the following link documents software installation and use.
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_support_product.asp?id=1318

This is not a driver per say but it appears to be the software you require. It is listed as Vista compatible

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/oima_softwareMaster.asp

I hope this is the complete software however I belt it inappropriate for be to register for the software since I do not own the camera.

I felt it inappropriate -- not I belt it inappropriate -- sorry

  • david Jan 04, 2008

This instructions state if you respond properly to the camera is created as a removable disk drive which can be accessed without the software identified earlier in this post. The software will also assist in the download process. The instruction has much more detail and illustrations that I can hope to present here.

  • david Jan 04, 2008

Jim on the bottom of page 40 and onto page 41 of the manual are instructions for getting pictures off the camera. Did you attempt those instructions? If you did where did the error occur which step -- and what happened?

  • david Jan 04, 2008

Sorry, I should have included the page numbers earlier and saved you some reading.

  • david Jan 04, 2008

Jim I figured out which page you were on with step 3 -- with the computer in that status you should be able to open my computer and see a removable drive just like the CDROM where you can access your pictures. If not I have provided you no help and you can either be refunded or get someone else here to assist you. I have no intention of accepting payment if you are not capable of performing your the desired functions when I am done. I will write Fixya's management myself to add confirmation to your statement that you did not get your answer if that is what works out in the end.

  • david Jan 04, 2008

Jim a letter has already been sent to FixYa and I will not longer attempt to address anyone else's issues on this site. I can only apologize again for failing to assist you.

Good luck and I hope someone else has your answer.

  • david Jan 04, 2008

Jim just for fun I type "Asus USB issue" into netscape search and got 229.000 hits. you may want to try www.asus.com or www.asustek.com and check out support for your laptop and see if you can find any reported issues and resolutions or workarounds on the USB. if you have a friend or other access to an XP machine you may be able to offload the camera and burn the contents to CD to resolve you immediate problem.

After ensuring above has been done I can only consider :-

Usb driver has got mis asigned in device manager, Not sure on vista but xp is control panel/system/hardware/device manager expand all branchs and look at drivers installed, delete usb devices/controllers and all unreconised devices (marked"?")

Cams not in PC mode?

Dodgy cable?

Vista issue is only other guess

see Micks Post HP or not.

"I had this same problem, I'm using Vista on my HP laptop and I managed to correct it. Apparently HP like to customize Vista and when connecting some USB device's they don't recognise them as what they should. A USB mass storage device. You will need to connect the camera to the computer, the camera will come on then click the ok button so it selects PC. Wait until it finishes its search click cancel and open device manager, scroll down and below Network Adaptors you should see an expandable tree with an yellow exclamation mark named Portable Device's --> FE-280/X820/C520 you will need to right click on the FE-280/X820/C520 icon and select "Update driver software". Then select "Browse my computer for driver software" then select "Let me pick from a list of device driver's on my computer" Scroll down till you see "Universal serial bus controllers" then select "USB Mass storage device" in the next window. It should all work fine now! If it still doesn't work try selecting "Portable devices" then select "WPD File system device" --> "Microsoft WPD filesystem Volume Driver".
Hope it helps."

My laptop doesnt recognize fe-280 olymous

Unisntall the software that came with the camera and reinstall them. If the computer asks for drivers, insert the cd that came along the camera and install the drivers. Alternately, you can use your laptop's card reader port to transfer pictures. Just take out the memory card from the cam and put it in the card reader slot. Have any questions, write back.

I lost driver cd ,i need drivers & software

Hi,

There are no drivers needed for the Olympus FE-190. Once connected through its USB, the computer will treat it as a USB mass storage device similar to a removable /flash drive.

If for some reason the PC won't recognize the camera, it is probably a problem with the USB cord, the USB port or the memory of the camera.

Alternately, you can use a memory card reader and slip in the memory card of the camera to gain access to the content/pictures.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

I'm needing a driver for my FE-280

I went to Olymbus website to find the driver for the FE-280 Digital camera and it states, no software availble at this time.

They show the camera on the website and I know there is a driver for it, but they are not supplying the consumer with it. Bad choice for Olympus.

I have given you some information and links below:

http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/FE-280%20Instruction%20Manual.pdf

This is the manual for your camera.
Go page 45 at the very bottom. Using a New Card

The FE-280 does not recognize my memory card. What can I do?
First, refer to the xD-Picture Card™ Compatibility Chart to verify that the card is supported in your model. If the card is not supported, return it to the store where you purchased it.
The FE-280 may not recognize non-Olympus brand media or a card that has been formatted on another device, such as a card reader or personal computer. As a general rule, xD-Picture Card media should only be formatted in the camera. Card readers should only be used to copy files from the memory card to an external device.
You may be able to use the card if you format it in the camera.
Warning: Formatting a media card will delete all content on the card.

When I put an xD-Picture Card™ flash memory card into my camera and turn it on, I get a “Card Error” message. What can I do?
This message occurs when the camera is unable to recognize the memory card or when an attempt to format a card fails.
If you see this message after inserting a brand new card, refer to the xD-Picture Card Compatibility Chart to verify that the card is supported in your model. If the card is not supported, return it to the store where you purchased it.
If the card is supported, it may need to be cleaned. Wipe the gold contacts of the card with alcohol using a soft cloth or tissue. When the contacts are dry, insert the card and turn the camera on.
If the Card Error message still appears, remove the card and insert a different supported card into the camera. If the camera reads the second card, then the camera is working properly and the problem lies with the original card.
You may be able to use the card if you format it in the camera.
Warning: Formatting a media card will delete all content on the card.
If you receive this error message after a failed attempt to format the memory card, the card may be defective. For assistance, contact Olympus’ Customer Service and Repair Center using any of the following methods:
Phone: 800-622-6372

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/OM_UpdateSoftware.asp
This is about updating the olympus Master Software.
