This fixed the problem for me : found it on the Dell support website:

Reposition the Encoder Strip

  1. Remove the power cord from the printer.

  2. Lift the scanner unit to expose the inside, where the printer cartridges are located.

  3. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.

  4. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right.

  5. Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up, to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge carrier.

carrier jam - new_note.jpg Note: There is a small slot on the back of the ink cartridge carrier, into which the encoder strip fits.
  6. Gently press the strip first to the rear, and then forward, to ensure that it is seated correctly.

  7. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right, to check the positioning of the encoder strip.

  8. Once the encoder strip has been re-seated, close the scanner lid.

  9. Re-connect the power cord to the printer.

One of the soultions is that you have to have both color and black cartridges in the carrier. even if they are empty.

How do i put in ink on 926 dell photo scanner and copier

From the online manual...

1. Turn on your printer.

2.Lift the printer unit, and then position the scanner support between the tabs to hold it open.

3.The ink cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position unless the printer is busy.

4.Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid.

5.Remove the old ink cartridges.

6.Store the cartridges in an air-tight container, such as the storage unit you received with your photo cartridge, or dispose of them properly.

7. If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge.

8. Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the black or photo ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier, and the color ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier.

9. Snap each lid closed.

10. Hold the printer unit up, push the scanner support back to unlock it, and then lower the printer unit until it is completely closed.

DELL PHOTO 926- ALL IN ONE- ERROR CODE- "UNSUPPORTED INK CARTRIDGE" HOW TO FIX THIS?

Follow the below instructions

  1. Lift the printer unit up. Position the scanner support beam between the tabs to hold the printer unit lid open. The ink cartridge carrier moves to the loading position in the center of the printer.

  2. Press down on the lever in front of the right and left ink cartridges lid. The lid opens and raises up.

  3. Remove the color and black ink cartridges from the carrier. Inspect the cartridges to ensure that it is compatible with the Dell 926 printer. The proper cartridge is called Dell 926 Standard Capacity Color Ink and Dell Standard Capacity Black Ink.

  4. Examine the cartridges for any tape over the ink nozzle. New cartridges have a strip of tape covering the bottom of the cartridge that must be removed before installing into the printer.

  5. Insert the cartridges into the carrier so the label is on top with the color logo side going in first. Press the lid down to snap it into place.

  6. Push the scanner support bar back to release it. Lower the printer unit until it is closed.

  7. Turn the printer off. Restart the computer. Turn the printer on. If the error message appears again, the cartridges may be defective and needs to be replaced.

I hope this clears up your problem.

I keep getting an error message that says clear carrier jam and then press the checkmark. However, there is no jam that I can see. Whenever I open the top of the printer the cartridges just remain stuck to...

lift the printer and shake to check if it sounds like a piece broken inside.. turn the printer off take the power brick out from the back.. manually pull the cartridge to extreme right then center.. check if cartridge is aligned correctly.. if nothing of this works.. contact dell for replacement under warranty.. if out of warranty.. inkjet printers cannot be repaired if broken.. u can buy a dell v313 of same quality for $59 with warranty..

Carrier Jam

This is what my printer did when it kicked of the 14" plastic strip inside the printer(see posts referring to strip). Look inside for a loose, quarter inch wide and 14" long plastic strip with slots on the end. Let me know if you solve this.

Ink cartridge carrier jam

If possible, shut off the printer completely and manually move the ink carriage to where the cartridges can be swapped out. turn it back on and try again. try to see if some mechanism that holds the missing cartridge in place has swung down and is bumping into something, preventing the carriage from moving past a certain point.

Dell 942 carrier jam

This morning I replaced the cartridges in the Dell 942 printer, they jammed to the left which made a loud grinding noise and the cartridge jam error came on.

I solved the problem by turning the printer on with the top up which moved the cartridges to the right a little so I could reach back, push one down a little manually which freed them to move over to the middle.
