Where is the fuel pump located. Is it electric or mechanical?

3. Disconnect the battery: Before starting any work, disconnect the truck's battery to prevent electrical shock or short-circuiting.
4. Remove the stock fuel pump: If the truck has a mechanical fuel pump, it needs to be removed. To remove it, disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections, and unbolt the fuel pump from the engine.
5. Install the electric fuel pump: Find a suitable location for the electric fuel pump that is close to the fuel tank and away from excessive heat. Mount the pump securely using the supplied mounting brackets.

Replace the mechanical pump with a new unit and that will remove any reason of broken/failure from the equation. Remove the electric pump altogether and leave 1 filter in the line before the mechanical pump. Mechanical pumps are not in favour with some people who have no idea that they can be adjusted to give more pressure and greater volume for the bigger capacity engines. Some mechanical pumps are more expensive to repair / replace but if you price an electric pump to supply the volume that a properly adjusted or a larger capacity mechanical pump then the cost saving is minimal. Unless you get a fuel filter that is rated with a smaller micron rating than the standard filter any number of filters will not work as the smallest particle will get through the lot

late model cars usually have the fuel pumps in the fuel tank which means that you have to remove the tank to be able to remove the fuel pump

the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to change the electric fuel pump.

BACK IN 1985 FORD MOUNTED FUEL PUMP IN 3 LOCATION.IT HAD MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP BOLTED ON THE ENGINE.ELECTRIC EXTERNAL FUEL PUMP.ON THE OUTSIDE OF FUEL TANK.THE INTERNAL ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP.ON THE INSIDE OF FUEL TANK.

The mechanical fuel pump is located on the engine block or on the cylinder head.

To my knowledge, most Ford models of this year uses a mechanical (diaphragm type) fuel pump not electrical. However, it is possible to install an aftermarket electric fuel pump in lieu of the mechanical pump. If this was done to your Ford F 100, it would either be either near the carbs or the fuel tank, follow the fuel line.
