Question about Hitachi 60SBX78B 60" Rear Projection Television

7 Answers

Hitachi 60"(60sbx78b) Will not power on, fuse still good.

The glass fuse on the board is still good. Tv was powered off and won't power back on. I work on some electronics, but not often in depth. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Matt (crippsms@windstream.net)

If you have Hitachi model number 50UX58B, 60UX58B, 50UX58K, 60UX58K, 50SBX78B or 60SBX78B and you have the following symptoms you may want to grab a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit that includes the parts and instructions to fix these models. This is a fairly common problem with the above model numbers. It is typically caused by a blown capacitor and pico fuse. Again, you can get a kit from the above address.
Here are the symptoms...

Primary Symptom: No Audio or Video. Power light will come on briefly then shut off.
Other Possible Symptoms : The green LEDs on the circuit board light up for a few seconds then turn off.

Hope this helps,

Matt, Hitachi`s have a series of green LED`s and one red LED on the main board, un-plug the tv for 30 seconds and then with the back cover removed plug the set back in and watch the led`s while someone else turns on the set, usually the led`s will temporarily light then one or more will immediately go out and then the rest will slowly go out and the red one will then start blinking, each led is a power supply indicator, 130 volt, 12 volt, 5 volt etcetera, find out which one(s) going out first and get back to me, BMW Rider

Thank you all for trying to help! I downloaded a factory service manual and traced down a protector fusible resistor #E991 (yellow w/red stripe on one end) near 120vac input on the board. When tested it showed open, I replaced it with a new one part#AZ00109M(protectorCRXT) from sears for $2.16. The picture couldn't be any more perfect short of HDTV. When I initially plugged it in, the power button nor the remote made any LED's light on the board(completely dead by sight & sound. I hope this helps someon with the same problem, and again thanks for all your replies!!!

I am taking it for granted that you have tried both remote and button on the set to power it up. I would tend to check out the regulators and Horizontal out put first, Then capacitors in the power supply.

I have an Hitachi TV and it will not come back on. It is about 8 years old. It usually will reset it self after I unplug it, but it just won't come back on now.

Look for a bad fuse on the power supply board. If it looks good, use a voltmeter to verify the various voltages are present on the power supply board. Also look at the filter capacitors for rounded or puffed up tops. They all should be flat on top. If you find any suspicious capacitors, you can get a new board from here: TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy

I have a Hitachi HDB70-S tv. It was switched off at the mains and switched back and I now have no picture or sound

If power was disconnected with the set either on or off when it returned (the power) the surge may have got the fuse that is inline with the power cord or even damaged the power supply board in the set.

I would look first at the fuse and take it from there if the fuse turns out to be good.

My hitachi plamsa tv won't turn on. It is plugged in but there is no power indicator light. What do i do? is it broken?

Sounds like a bad power supply. You should be able to remove the back of the TV and locate the power supply (look for lots of silver capacitors and a fuse to know its the power supply board) and obtain a part number. Write down any numbers you see on the board or on stickers. Then you can try searching www.shopjimmy.com for the correct part and replace it.

TV screen is black but power button lights up. No

you need to open the tv up and take out the internal fuse or fuses...go and get the right type of fuses...(the fuses will be made of glass and the same size of a plug fuse) DO NOT USE PLUG FUSES....if that fails then you need to take it to the tv repair man

Got a Hitachi rear projection model # 50ux58b. Kids been playing the Wii and all of a sudden no power. Course nobody knows nothing. You know the story. Anyway Fuse and cap probably need replaced. Any idea...

the three guns that the lenses drive operate at 28kv.
there are very high and dangerous voltages in a tv set.
you can look for the fuse main pc board by the power cord..if it is black, there is a major short.if it is just barely blown, change it.
the fuses are 3ag glass type and just pop in. use a set of rubber gloves and insulated pliers.. tvs are DANGEROUS

Yes there is a fuse in most of the sets for protection that might either be a glass fuse or a fuse soldered to the board. If the fuse is intact suspect a fault on the power supply board where you located the internal fuse. Hope this helps.

The green led or lights on the board indicate some of the power supplies are working. The key is do you see any come on and then go out. this would indicate which part of the power supply is failing. also there are fuses in the set that do not look like your standard glass fuse. WARNING television generate lethal voltages that will hurt you. extreme care should be used.

Hitachi 50DX10B Power issue

Rollo, broken solder connections either in low voltage or sweep section of the board, probably in the horizontal out put area but could be anywhere. If you want to attempt the fix the board has to come out and you`ll need a bright light as well as a good magnifying glass to find the broken joints and then re-solder them, Be certain your tv`s AC cord is removed from the wall outlet before doing any soldering, good luck, BMW Rider

If there is no power indicator, you could have gotten lucky and only the main fuse insiude the set blew. You can unplug the TV set, take off the back of the TV. Then where the line cord comes out of the TV set and plugs into the wall, look where the line cord enters the set and look for a glass type cylinder fuse. If it is black, most likely there is a short inside the TV set. If it is not black, try replacing the fuse with ONLY the type that is stamped on the side of the fuse. If the set still does not work, or if the fuse blows again, you will need to have the set serviced by a pro. Good Luck
