Vista's Hardware Compatibility with my dial up modem.

I have a dial up modem and I can't find any drivers for the 64 bit version of Windows Vista or XP that work with it. Is it possible to have a 64 bit system and use dial up? I have no other option at this time. I have a Toshiba satellite M100-221, Intel core 2 duo.The modem would not work in XP 64bit windows, I had already checked for updates from LSI / Agere system but still don't work. Is there any possible solution for this or other modem driver that work on this kind of modem?

I have the same problem with my HP Pavillion DV5t notebook using an Ageres (HP branded) USB modem which HP said would work. It does not work. It failes to complete the handshaking and latch up to the provider. I have spent many hours searching for a modem/driver for Vista 64. II am very frustreted with Vista and with HP support. It sucks!

I have an HP USB dial up modem with my new HP HDX lap top. Had the same problem, contacted HP, they said the modem wasn't compatible with Vista. so, I said, "why did you sell it to me with my computer?"

they said they would send me info to send it back ( but they never did) and that they did not have one that would work. I specifically discussed this with them when I order my computer.

Check the compatibility of the driver with the OS version:Windows 8 (32 or 64 bits), Windows 7 (32 bits or 64 bits) , Vista (32 b, 64 b), XP (32 bits , 64 bits). You should try to use the software that shipped with the printer. When installing, choose local printer (USB), or Network (Ethernet cable, or Wireless).

Icannot load the driver for Targus acp50us. i am running Windows 7

Do you have the 32-bit version of Windows 7 or the 64-bit version? To identify your version, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. On the line that gives the OS version, if you see x64, then you have the 64-bit OS. If you do not see these extra characters, then you have the 32-bit version.

I suspect you have the x64 version of Windows 7. Targus does not have drivers for Windows 7 x64 for the ACP50US. Targus only supports the ACP45 and the ACP51 docks under the 64-bit OS.

If you have the 32-bit version of Windows 7, download the driver from http://www.targus.com/us/download.aspx?regionid=&sku=acp50us&PageName=&productCategoryId= . This is the Vista (and XP) driver. You may need to use the compatibility mode to get it to work. Right click on the executable file and choose Properties. In the Compatibility tab, choose "Run this program in the compatibility mode". Select Vista or XP in the drop down menu. Then right click on the installer again and choose Run as Administrator.

I hope this helps and I wish that I had better news for you.

You can right click the program and try troubleshooting compatability. otherwise it wont work with vista. To be honest, Vista is the worst OS ever. Upgrade to windows 7

The four things that make 64-bit Vista inadvisable for ordinary users are:
1: No compatibility with old 16-bit Windows apps. This means ancient Windows 3.x software, which most people don't run any more, but 16-bit code can still pop up in the darndest places. Like, for instance, in the installer programs for other apps.
2: No automatic registry and file redirection, which is what 32-bit Vista uses to allow existing software to work with Vista's better user account security, even if the software wants to do admin-rights stuff to the registry and Program Files directory. Many apps still break in 32-bit Vista, but many more break in the 64-bit version.
3: No compatibility with existing 32-bit drivers. Everything on your computer will need a new driver. 64-bit WinXP is the same, and there aren't many 64-bit computers on which Vista won't at least install, but 64-bit Windows also has...
4: No support for unsigned drivers.
