Re: Where to connect what on motherboard

Very generic questions so lets see if i can answer as best as i can. hard drives and dvd are very similar principles (see below)

hard drives comes in SATA or PATA. If its a SATA then there should be small red connectors that you should plug the HD in on the motherboard while PATA or IDE drivers should have white connectors. They are wider in width of the cable containing about 24 pins. The motherboard would also call out SATA1,SATA2 etc so you know its the SATA plug. Likewise for IDE drives.

Regarding power switches, on most motherboards there should be a set of pins at one corner of the board with tiny little letters pwr next to it. You will need to connect power switch cable from the case to the motherboard.

I highly recommend you read the manual that comes with the motherboard to see where it is located.

good luck

SIR: i WISH TOINSTALL TWO HARDDISKS. The motherbord has only one socket for a primary. Where do I connect my dvd player? Thank you very much:

You need a cable with 3 connections.
1 for the motherboard... one for the hard drive and the 3rd for your dvd.
set the jumper on your hard drive to "cable select" ( it's probably there already)
set the jumper on the dvd to "slave"
Don't forget to go into the BIOS and activate the Primary port's second address and set it to auto detect. If auto detect doesn't work set it to cd

I add another dvd rom to my PC but it refuses to load my operating system. my OS is windoow xp celeron iv with 40G hard disk. Desktop computer with 256GHz ram. I eqully returned the rom using corect...

there may be a clash of IRQs of the DVD ROMs....
the 1st DVD ROM has been alotted a IRQ and then you connected the 2nd DVD ROM but the OS does not know which DVD ROM drive to look for while loading the OS to look for the boot CD....based on the setting in BIOS for boot order....
plus you may have to define both the DVD roms as primary and slave by making changes in the jumper cables...
(google and loacte the solution for the jumper setting for that)

New computer tower motherboard(Intel D945GCPE), Processor(Intel Celeron 430 LGA775), memory, hard-drive(ATA), & dvd-rom(ATA). Got it all installed in new tower(ATX,I have green light on the motherboard...

First try to clear CMOS

Turn off the system and disconnect power cables

Locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard and take out the battery

Wait for about 15 minutes

Reconnect battery and try to turn it on.

If it remain same, disconnect power cables

Disconnect hard drive and CD/DVD drives

Try to turn on again.

Also check if the front panel connectors (Power SW, Reset, HDD connector) are properly connected.

No video on monitor ?

Try testing the hardware connections. Often it's as simple as a backwards IDE cable for the hard drives/cdroms, but if that isn't the case, start from nothing. Remove one of the two RAM sticks and all devices, (drives, CD-roms, anything that isn't needed to boot)
Let me know what this turns up.

Go to the Asus website and download the drivers for this board. It's most likely that it did not come with drivers installed. Hopefully this will fix the problem. Good luck.

The cd-roms @ new dvd rom with the red cable makes the cpu freez no icons

The DVD drive you are trying to use uses a SATA (serial ATA) connection (the red cable). If the drive came with any software on a disk, you should install the drivers for it. Otherwise check the manufacturer's website for information and/or drivers for the installation of the drive.

Not sure...

your hard drive should be set to primary if cd on same ribbon cable it should be set to secondary and do you have the power lead inserted into both
if the drives are not set nothing will work as the bios does not know whats is there
if need more info let me know
