This is one of those times I recommend you load it up and take it to a Honda shop. There may be more than a blown head gasket. And by the fact that you ask if you need a torque wrench we can tell you are not used to jobs of this nature. You most definitely need a torque wrench, torquing a head is one of the most important things about a bike. Spend the money and know it is done right.

You would benefit from purchasing a service manual for your bike, as it should have detailed directions and information on the repair you need. Yes you will need a torque wrench, if this is your first "big" repair, please get a manual and follow the directions closely, otherwise you could do additional damage to the motor. Hope this helps and good luck.

Cylinder head bolt torque settings for 1999 daewoo lanos 1400 is

USA car or not. some cars made else where are not the same.
yes made in 10 plants world wide, my be not the same.
first off most cars now use TTY torque to yield on head bolts
and that means not to ReUSE them ever.
the service manual shows 2 things
the order
and the TTY methods and rules for all bolts there.
1.4L engine
sounds to me the engine froze iced up , lacking antifreeze or overheated max.
my online FSM , shows 1.6L and 2.0L only in USA>
so is that it? which one/? to post a question about any engine
tell what engine is there first. or post the VIN with xxxx at the end
the engine code is there. but not told, sorry , I'd hate to guess
or post for 3 engines is a waste of time.
if I google search 1400 I get no hits, why is that, IDK> how odd
is it a typo,(major)
there is 1.4L sold in some countries, Canada, or UK or other english speaking countries.
GM/Daewoo E-TEC (Family 1)

I give up ,my book has no 1.4L at all
so can not read the engine page to you and would if I could.
in USA to fix cars it is super wise to join and pay
for Mitchell-1, DIY manuals.
and read. and not make blunders in this area.

here they are in all their glory, in ASE school we get free access.
it is that good

Firstly the sort of crack cylinder heads suffer from are most often not visible which is why pressure testing is important especially if the previous blown gasket had resulted in a nearly cooked engine.

Uneven heating of a metal mass will always cause distortion and uneven cooling often causes a crack - this is often the consequence of leaving a failing head gasket until it has failed.

It isn't unknown for the top of a cylinder block to need attention due to corrosion or warpage. It isn't unknown for a cylinder block to crack, it also isn't unknown for head bolts to stretch and bottom in the holes especially when the head has been skimmed...
It isn't unknown for amateur mechanics to misinterpret the cylinder head bolt tightening method when it uses a mixture of conventional torque wrench and angular torquing.

I HAVE STEAM & ANTIFREEZE COMING OUT OF TALIPIPE

Best case, blown head gasket. Worst case, cracked cylinder or cylinder head. Unless your engine digested something like a bolt, 99.9% of the time it's a head gasket as mentioned above. Usually nNot something for someone lacking tools and experience to try and tackle, unfortunately. Maybe with the help of the internet and being resourceful, you could attempt it with success. Take pictures upon disassembly, get a box of ziploc bags and a marker and label each and every set of screws and bolts as you disassemble, putting them in separate bags. The intake and cylinder head has a torque sequence and setting. you'll need to discover that sequence and torque setting. Sometimes it's a measurement in ft lbs, where you'll need a torque wrench and sometimes it's angle torque, where you'll use a torque wrench to start and then need an angle meter to measure the degree of turn beyond that. You cannot reuse factory head bolts, so get replacements.
Make absolutely sure that you thoroughly clean the head and engine deck surfaces until they wipe clean with a white rag and lacquer thinner. You should also take the head to a machine shop and have it surfaced, if not consider reconditioning the head with a valve job, new springs, retainers and seals or buy a reconditioned head.

My truck is blowing white smoke and will idle for about twenty minutes and then cut itself off.

white smoke means there is a presence of water/coolant at your combustion chamber. common cause of this is blown head gasket and/or small cracks/holes in your cylinder head. if this happens, water will not circulate properly in your engine thus the vehicle will shutdown due to over heating.

what to do:
1. replace head gasket. this is quite not a DYI fix since it will require some tools like torque wrenches and some knowledge on timing.
2. if replacing the head gasket does not solve your problem, have your cylinder head resurfaced at the nearest car service center. resurfacing makes sure that your cylinder head perfectly fits with the crank case.

I have a blown head gasket. What steps would I need to go thru for self repair?

I would not recommend doing this work at home. It requires specialized tools, such as a torque wrench, piston ring compressor, and a good manual for torque sequence and values. Furthermore, most blown gasket mishaps require bringing the head surface back to flat and true.

Blown head gasket how to repair it

The only way possible: remove the cylinder head and replace it. And do it quickly because a blown head gasket can seriously damage an engine if left unfixed.
This is a serious job, which requires mechanical knowledge and some special tools - a torque wrench is mandatory.

1994 old cutlass ciera 3100 blown head gasket.

Get a Chilton's book on the car. It will take you thru the whole job, and give you the torque specs for putting it back together. You will need a torque wrench, foot pounds, and a good socket set.
