Question about Pioneer DVR-640H DVD Recorder/HDD Recorder

1 Answer

Pioneer DVR 640 H

My time left on recorder shows ZERO although I know there is over 20 hours (at least) still left. I cannot record on the HD because of the 0 mins. time left. At the moment I can edit recorded programmes but cannot divide them. I tried optimitising a few times but I think I need to drop more programmes from the list. I can record the programmes from the HD to individual discs and eliminate these programmes from my HD successfully. I have not yet contacted ioneer but would like some external advice. Thanks.

I record only TV programmes and discovered that when the recorder comes down to about 10 hours of SP time it tends to show 'no more space'. I just kept deleting recorded programmes until recording time left appeared and it tended to be about 30 hours. A few weeks later I tried to get the same results and again it did not disappoint me. The result and process applied was the same and everything seems to be working great again. THE MOTTO "DO NOT GO TO THE EDGE!".Thanks for your inputs because it ties in with over saving.

You may have CDs stored in the Jukebox taking up space- if so delete them.

You may have images stored in the photoviewer - again, delete...

Have you done any disc backups, and forgot to delete the backup file? Goto bottom of copy menu for disc backup, then in the disc backup menu, choose delete backup file.

How can I transfer recordings to a hard drive?

Any external USB hard drive that uses a 3.5" hard drive (the larger drives they use in desktops) will work. These all come with an external power adapter you must plug into the wall.

The external hard drive units that use the smaller 2.5" hard drives are the ones they use in laptops. These require much less power, and can be powered by the PC's USB port although some do come with an optional power adapter. However the Dish receiver does not send enough power to its USB port to power the hard drive, which is why the tech told you to get one that has an external power supply.

Even then the DVR uses a drive format that your computer may not recognize. I don't know if there are tools out there that will let you connect a hard drive from a DVR, read and convert the TV shows stored there.

Another option is to buy a DVD recorder. This is like a VCR, only it uses a DVD disc and not a video tape. Connect the DVD recorder to the outputs on the DVR, and then set the DVD recorder so it will record from its input. (on my DVD recorder this is "IN2")

Put a blank DVD into the DVD recorder, start playing a show on the DVR, and hit record on the DVD recorder. When the show is finished, hit stop on the DVD recorder to stop recording. The advantage here is you can then play this DVD on any DVD drive. The disadvantage is DVD recorders only record in non-HD. You can still play a show in HD, but the recording you get won't be in HD. Also, the show has to record in real time. So if it's a 60 minute episode, it will take 60 minutes to record.

Dvr VIP622 will only record up to 20 episodes, still has 148 free hours left...whats the cause and fix?

Our 622 receivers are able to record more than just 20 episodes. There is a setting you can change to ensure it keeps any recordings.

Press the DVR button 3 times to go to Daily Schedule. Once there select "Timers" and then manually select the timer that you're having problems with. Go to Options and on the bottom is a "Maximum Recorded Events" section. This is where you can tell the receiver how many episodes to hold before automatically deleting them. Delete the timer and reset it up, make sure that box has a # symbol in it. If the problem continues afterwards, let me know here!

Won't record in HD. DVR shows to be recording, but when you click on the programmed HD channel (the one that's supposedly recording) it's blank and says "searching for satellite". Just started recently.

Have you tried rebooting the DVR and removing the card that came with the DVR if its one that was provided to by one of the satellite company's such as Directv or Dish.

I have been having DISH DVR problems lately. The most recent is my recorded programs list is not showing anything in it. But I only have 13 hours of record time left, so I know they are on there somewhere.

You always want to ensure you have the updates being completed at a time that is most convenient for you, you can change the update time which is generally set to 3am, by going into your MENU selecting option 8 (Preferences) and then selecting option 4 (Updates) you will then be able to change the time the receiver completes updates if you desire and then please just make sure you are shutting your receiver off nightly to allow the updates to be successfully completed (this will help to prevent DVR issues). In addition, once you delete some of your recordings, powering it off nightly allows the hard drive to be refreshed and clears the deleted recording entirely. I hope this helps!

My Pioneer DVR-320-S tuner did not pick up the free-to air HD channels I can receive on my new HDTV. I am running the aerial through the DVD recorder to the TV. Can I run the aerial line into the TV and...

You might need a splitter (about 3 bucks at walmart) attach the Antenna to the side of the splitter with only one connection. Connect an RF cable to each of the remaining 2 connections. Run one wire to the DVR and the other to the TV. You can then watch one channel, and record on the other at the same time. You might not be able to record in HD if the recorder is not an HD recorder. Regular DVD recorders only record up to 500 lines, HD is rated at 720 or 1080 lines

My dvd player will not play HD-DVDs it is an HD DVD player

This dvd player doesnt' play HD DVD's it has a HDD which is short for Hard Drive. Which means you can use it like a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) to record your favorite shows and things like that.

Does this answer your question? If not i'm not sure what you're trying to ask could you be a little more elaborate?

Hard drive shows full even after erasing 120 hours.

You should empty the recycled bin in the system and delete all temporary files on it.

Recording from guide plus

Recording from the guide requires that the unit be off to receive guide info regularly and copy it to the HD. If your reception is poor or your DVD on time is too great, the guide will not have any info, and the recording be nameless, except for channel and time info. You can force the EPG mode by removing the power plug from the back of the unit, but only do this after you have turned the unit off! While copying the guide to the HD, the display shows EPG while th unit is off, and you will hear the HD cycling.
