Explorer not recognizing the drive. It is getting power, and you can hear the rpms start up - and then nothing. I have been using this drive for about 6 months.
When I plug in the device I can hear it click and see the device under "my computer" but I do not have the U3 Launcher and the device is totally blank. This is the 2GB. I have the 1 GB with no problems. The guy on the Office Depot help line said these are now made by a different company.

A little program called TrueCrypt can make a flash drive/portable hard drive set up for password protection.

Keep in mind that this is not the only one out there, but this is the easiest to set up.
Good luck and do not forget to rate me :)
Unplug it and plug it in to a different USB port, shut down the computer and while the computer is off, turn on the drive.
Then restart windows with the drive on, now after windows starts, wait about 5-10 minutes, if the drive does not start to blink, (the light), then go to there website and get there hard drive Diagnostic disk, you can download it.
western digital (wd3200js)320gb have failed in receiver taken out and run in 3.5 external enclosure using proper connecting cables but my computer is not recognizing there is a hard drive connected. I am using pvr explorer what to do for data recovery.
what you should do is search for a driver for it so put the name of the usb then driver in a search engine and download and install a driver this should make the computer able to recognise the usb's software
This trial software expiration shouldn't prevent the external drive from working. The drive should be visible in "My Computer", Windows Explorer etc. A quick way to determine if the drive does have a problem, is plug it into another system- if it works there, then you have some sort of problem on the first machine- likely a software bug- or maybe some virus has fouled things up.
i have the same problem. macbook doesn't see anymore my hdd western digital 2,5'' white 250 GB. tried disk warrior, disk utility but nothing. it's just seem disappeared, even if i hear it works inside (and the led light is on) what can i do?
Take it back to the store - this is a common problem with WD drives and WD are doing nothing to address this issue with their larger drives. Buy another make and you should be trouble free.
Already tried this. No good. crummy
