DLP Powering Off after 5 minutes

Thanks in advance for your help!

My (3) year old Panasonic PT-50DL54 is shutting down after about 5 minutes. The lamp light will either blink, or, I had the power button blink (5) times. (Thanks, Bill for the Blink Codes). I usually can "re-boot" the TV and I can get it back up and running. The picture quality is still great, so it does not look like the lamp has gone bad. Or has it?

By the way, this problem started happening a day after I hooked up my kids Wii (Game Console) to the RCA input on the back of the set. I had to slide the TV from the entertainment center to get access to the imputs, but it definitely was NOT "man handled"! First I thought the power cord was dislodge (NO), or perhaps the IR Emitters (Niles) and the Wii Blue Tooth remotes were "interfering" with the set. However, after powering off those (2) devices... I am still having problems.

Any suggestions?

David

I am now getting a slew of blinking errors... 5 / 6 / 8. Could it be as simple as a cooling lamp... or will this cost me the price of a NEW televsion. I do have a print out of the "Error Codes"... however, I do not know what the codes mean... They sound expensive!

I just received my television back from repairs and hopefully, with fingers crossed, the problem is solved. The Panasonic repairman replaced (5) faulty power capacitors. I do not know exactly what that meant, however, he stated that the faulty capacitors were causing the set to shut off, triggering the various blink codes. Previous to phoning a technician, I took out the original lamp and re-seated it back into place. Oddly, this worked for (2) months! After that, I purchased a new lamp to see if that would help the problem, unfortunately, it did not! Hopefully the set will last long enough where the new lamp will be needed and used.

Anyway, good luck... I think we all are experiencing the same problems due to a faulty design flaw. Let's hope this works...

My technician is located in Ventura, California - The Electronic Repair Center (Authorized Panasonic Technician) – I felt he was pretty honest and reputable - $300 (however, I also purchased a new lamp from Panasonic which set be back another $300) ARGGGG!

GOOD LUCK!

Our DLP powers off as well. Can turn it back on but just doesn't seem right to have to play the try and see game.

Chances are the cooling fan for the lamp is bad, or the temp sensor for the lamp might be defective.
