Question about Acer AL1716Bbd 17" LCD Monitor
Okay i picked up a freebie from a friend didn't know what was wrong with it but hey its free and i play a lot of games and so forth so yeah. anyways the screen powers on but from what i can see tries to connect with signal but fails and will simply reboot and try again a few seconds later and than stays lite but black and blank. i do not us with a computer but have tried to use it with one. I tried first with my 360 with a VGA connector (i know it works cause i was using another LCD monitor before i picked this one up) and i would use a DVI input if i could but it does not come with one so I'm stumped, I've tried everything to my knowledge. Anyone have a suggestion?

SOURCE: monitor goes black
Sorry to have to tell you this, but this is common in LCD monitors. The reason that it is going black when it boots is for one of two reasons. You either have a bad power supply that powers your LCD or your LCD's backlight is blown. These can be repaired or you can purchase a new one. But if it goes black 9 times out of 10 is because the backlight is bad. These can be repaired!

Probably a bad inverter board, the inverter board powers the bulbs that display the image. this is VERY common problem on all LCD tv's,laptops and monitors.
usually a small transformer blows open on the inverter board. the innverter needs to be replaced if this is the this case.

You are correct, it could be a power surge that has caused it.
Unplug the monitor from the wall.
Remove all the video connections at the monitor end.
Wait 10 minutes then plug the monitor back into the wall (do not connect the video leads)
Turn it on and see if it goes past the ACER logo now. If so, replace the video cables and try the computer.
If not, then one of these will apply and a tech will be required..

You get the message because the game try to run at the PC video resolution that you monitor cannot display/support. You need to run your game at native resolution of the monitor.
