'93 D21 ka2.4. miss fire,surge, and runs rich

I have a '93 D21 ka2.4 I jared the truck while off roading and truck started running rough with bad miss fire thru out rpm range, surging at idle, very low idle, and running very rich. Idles normal with mass air flow sensor unplugged. whats wrong?

MAF was pretty clean already and is cleaner now throttle body is also clean

is there a way i can test the MAF? with an ohm meter or something. id like to be sure before i fork over the $300 for a new one

Sounds like you have a very dirty mass air flow meter. invest in a new one and be sure to clean the throttle body with an appropriate cleaner and tooth brush.

i cant find my manuals right now. therefore i will not say 100% that this is the issue. i will say that by experience i am about 98% sure and that is from mercedes experience. i wouldnt buy new, i would buy used with a warranty. alot less expensive.

hmmm sounds like the fuel pump is more of the issue as its sending too much fuel into the motor making it run rich or the gas that your using is too rich for the motor itself

Probably a miss fire,,, fuel or ignition related. or worse valve train problem

Yes...timing. Adjust the distributor...back it off a little and set the timing....also check your carb setting for rich/lean mix....air mix will cause this also.

What have you done to the system to cause this or were you trying to adjust something?

Missfire

Locate you computer (right front kick panel) and tap on it with a pen while the car idles... Also flex it back and forth with your hands to see if the car runs rough or quits... You may need a new one.
