I have a combo DVD writer/CD writer, Lite-On DVDRW9, and Sonic Record Now 7. That came on my Compaq, Presario SR123ONX Using Movie maker, I have saved the photo and music creation to my computer using setting DV-AVI (NTSC). I then send it to Record Now I burn it and it verifies it but it will not play on any of the DVD Players. I have used DVD+R and DVD-R all the players say that it is unreadable. Any suggestions.
Will it play on your computer?
Some older DVD players will not play this DVD...
Also, make sure you do not have multiple Burning software applications on your PC.

Your DVD drive is missing the Burning Program not the driver. I found an update for your windvd software for windows 7 but you probably have to have the full program installed to run the update. Hope this helps.
hi, toshiba computers commonly used tool is called burnt record now, it works properly, that you get at the start + all programs + sonic + record now, try using this tool, if the fault persists, you should have problems with your unit cd-dvd
What is the software for?
If you want to record CDs and DVDs then you need Nero or Sonic record now.
windowsXP has a built in CD recording program butnot for DVDs
Windows Vista can record CDs and DVDs but neither operating systems program can copy CDs.
A Combo drive is a type of optical drive that combines CD-R/CD-RW recording capability with the ability to read (but not write) DVD media
Lite-on SOHC-5236V is a dvd/cd-rw combo drive so it can read and write CDs and read DVDs (but cannot burn DVDs)

Are you sure your drive is a dvd writer? And if it is a writer, is it a dvd -r or a dvd +r or a dvd -r/+r? Depending on the way the dvd writes to the disk, you will need to buy specific media for the writer to write to. DVD -R cannot write to DVD +R and vice versa, and even if the drive is a DVD -R/+R, they seldom write to both media with any degree of regularity or of good quality. Most dual dvd writers seem to prefer DVD -R.
Oh yeah, one other thing, if your dvd is a writer, you should check out the drive properties in my computer to verify it is set to record. If you see the recording tab, select it and verify that the box is checked to enable cd recording on this device.
I know your problem however it is easily fixed, the burner has worn out, the laser basically is not putting out enough light for it to work properly, the best and easiest fix, goto tigerdirect.com and replace the burner, they now start as low as 24.00 and go up to around 65.00 so it's not an expensive fix.
