Question about Canon imageRUNNER 400S Copier

1 Answer

Grey Band/lines across page

When I copy or print on my IR400, there are grey lines and a grey band that appears on the pages. Is this a problem with the drum? Do I need to clean something? How can I fix this? Thanks.

I think it's the drum. Is there any way to clean it or maintain it myself instead of completely replacing it?

Your problem could be one of many things first try stoping the copy half way in the machine. to do this open the front door and cheat the door switch with some folded up paper or use a flat screw driver to bypass the switch. make a copy and watch the paper when in goes into the drum and starts to come out like 3 inches pull the screw driver or paper out of the switch. carefully pull the paper out from the machine and see if the image is ok. if the marks are there the problem is with the drum. if the image is clear and there is no marks then open the left door on the copier and inspect the rollers in the heat unit. to do this open the left door the front door has to be open to do this. there is a little green lever on the right side pull this down and look at the 2 roller if you see marks on the top roller or dirt on the lower roller this is your problem. also check the miliage reading on the drum if there is a sticker and check the meter on the machine the drum is rated for 55,000 copies.

the drums surface cannot be cleaned or touched by anything other then a clean lint free cloth but there is a rubber plug on the drum unit that allows you to dump out the waste if the waste is over full the cleaning blade cannot clean it proberly. try to empty it and see if the marks start to go away otherwise replace it.

My hp laserjet 5p ..The printer prints grey and dark grey line about every 1.5 inches. it looks like it lightly duplicates what it has already printed, with every 1.5 inch pass.

Most common and easiest to check is the toner cartridge. Swap it out and see if it goes away. If not then it is in the fuser unit. The fusing unit is the part that gets hot and is located right before where the paper exits the machine.
If the bands go all the way across the page then the toner cartridge is much more likely.

HP LaserJet 2430 prints vertical grey bands

It is a bad Toner Cartridge or Fuser. Most likey a bad toner cart.

Faint grey lines Every 1/3rd of a printed page

This is the test to determine toner or fuser issue.
Print a test page
When you hear the paper feed into the machine open the top to stop the machine
Remove the toner cart.
You should be able to see the page with printing on it. (This is before the page hits the fuser)
If you can see the smudge or marks on the page the problem is most likely the cartridge or cleaning roller but NOT the fuser.
If the page is clean the problem is most likely the fuser.

check your toner/drum cartridge. lift the flap, do not touch roller (usually green), is the same grey band on the roller, if so replace cartridge.

White line across printed page

Hi Alms, Is there any chance you can post a scan of one of your faulty pages. This would help to assess the fault. If you print several pages, does the image move further and further down the page with each copy? Is the white band repeated down the page? If so measure the distance between each band - this will help identify the faulty component.
