Missing sound devices ; Big yellow question markc at Multimedia audi controller Video vontroller( VGA Compatible)

Big yellow question mark on media in the hardware manager means that your sound card needs the drivers updated or rolled back - or that no drivers are present to run the sound.

Click on the question mark and choose preferences to see what the error or question is. Click on update driver and let the pc connect to the internet to find the right one. If it cannot locate a driver, then you will have to manually show it where the sound drivers are located. Try going to "C" - then programs and find windows and look for sys 32. The sound driver should be in that area.

If you cant find the drivers, let me know by posting a reply in your original question on Fixya's website.

The button with a speaker circle and line through it stays bright orange will not go off so I dont have any sound .This is on the area above my keyboard. How do I shut it off?

OK. So you can't turn teh sound ON. Pressing the light/button does nothing right? It sounds like it might be a driver issue. You can roll back the system if it wasn't to long ago but you need to be sure of the problem. Right click on 'My Computer', select 'Manage', 'Device Manager', Check for any yellow dots with the '!' mark in them or worse a red circle next to any devices. If you do have issues you need to solve them by updating , reinstalling or deleting the driver and starting again. If this all sounds too hard then you will have to take it to someone who can perform the re installation.

I have rebuilt my Acer Aspire 5101 from te recovery partition. I have also carried out all MS updates. I now have no sounds at all. Even Windows sounds. Any easy fix?

Try reinstalling the sound card drivers. If problem persists, may be hardware problem. Then contact service centre.

My computer says that thay is no a sound device installed

Anytime a peripheral (speakers) doesn't work, start by unplugging it. Turn the computer on with it unplugged. Shut the computer down again. Plug in the speaker(s). Turn the computer back on. If MS "finds new hardware," follow the prompts to reinstall. If nothing happens, update your drivers on Microsoft's update site. If that doesn't work:
Go to start, then Control panel, and then click on sounds and devices. If your screen looks different than the pic below, go to left of your screen and click on classic view. Double click on Sounds Icon. Click the hardware tab. Highlight each device and click properties. It will say if the device is working properly.
Go down the list of devices. If you find one that shows a problem, Check the driver. If it was newly installed, roll back the driver. You can also look for a new one online. If that doesn't show anything, go to system in the (control panel too). Click on device manager, then the + next to Sound/video Controllers. Look for a red x, indicating malfunction. Double click on anything with a red X and check the drivers, especially recently changed ones. Update drivers and follow troubleshooters. You can do the same with Accessories, where the speakers will be listed in device manager. Last resort is to right click on the offender and uninstall, then restart. Hope that Windows will identify the hardware and reinstall it with the proper drivers. If not, go back to Microsoft and search for optional device drivers.

My computer has no sound and i don' know how to put sound back on to my computer

Probably a driver problem. Go to device manager and then sound devices and update your sound drivers...Or it could be a problem if the sound card is intergrated. You ca purchsed a pci sound card and fix it. You might want to check the bios and make sure your sound is enabled,,Hope this helps,,,,Darren
