Question about Mitsubishi WS-55513 55" Rear Projection HDTV

65" Mitsu with 55" DM ?

I have been reading alot of posts about the 65" blink of death. I have also read alot of 55" comes on a few seconds...then goes off. Well my Mitsu 65" comes on for a few seconds then clicks off. I thought I would go ahead and try to replace the caps like I have seen offered as a suggestion for the 65" blink. To my suprise when I pull out the DM, i see ws-55611 on a sticker on the DM. Sure enough... when I open the metal cage...it has seven caps. Should I continue trying to changing out the caps, should I call the dealer and inquire why I have the wrong board? Im probably going to go ahead and try the caps, but If the tv wasn't going on 5...I think would really be t.offed. Thanks to anyone who can offer some suggestions.

Thanks for responding. I bought it new in 03 and never had a problem with until now. Have changed the caps and nothing. I will keep researching and waiting for help...Thanks for the input.

actually...hadn't checked any fuses. Any particular location (dm board,ect..). I am very new to working on circuit boards and such...so I am not sure how or exactly what to test. when you say low voltage reg. to me, I have no idea what to look for or how to test/ same with horizontal output. I'm not scared to try to fix anything, but I try to get a good idea of what I'm doing before I do it. Also, I think I could see if a glass fuse was blown, but how would I check the pica fuses? Thanks alot for taking any time you can to help.

sorry for being log winded, but I was reading your (Slinteriors) responses to similar problems. I can get some type of reading from hitting the menu&device buttons. it blinks twice, pauses blinks twice, pauses ect.. for a total of 10 sets of two blinks.(two blinks = 1 set) Any idea what problem that would point to?

first to Slinter...I cant find anything with Q501. I've looked on every board in the set. Any chance you could tell me where I'm supposed to be looking?

second for bishihater...fboth the 2 amp and the 4 amp 125 v fuses appear to be ok...any other thoughts?

thanks to both of you for the imput!

    slinteriors,

Do I have to take out the transister to test it? I think the Q5A01 transister is the one your talking about. The transister is located on the board on the right hand side if looking from the back side of the tv (if i have the right one). I'll wait for any input you have for me. Thanks alot!!!

pulled the transistor out and it seems to test fine.(one way between B&E also between B&C. No resistance between C&E). Any other ideas guys?

    Hey Slinteriors,

Thanks for responding so quickly. How do I go about checking the voltages. I know I sound dumb, but like I said, I don't have any experience with this stuff. Thanks again.

I replaced the caps first on my 55" first as well....Then after prodding around with a multimeter on the DM board I found A surface mount 125v 4 amp fuse chip(very small) near the capacitors I replaced that was bad( giving resistance when tested)..On my board the location is labeled fb902 I believe..Test for continuity from one side of the fuse to the other with a multimeter or cheap continuity tester....Couldnt believe I found that tiny problem in the sea of circuits....good luck...Sorry if my terminology sucks but Im a first timer as well....

OOOOps forgot to tell ya the fuses are mounted on the bottom or backside of the dm module.....little porcelain? squares.....I guess....about an 1/8" x 1/8" with soldered mounts on each side of the fuse....Good Luck

I would go for changing the capacitors I have seen many that have the same scenario.95 % of the time it falls back to capacitors being bad on the board. I have also seen alot of boards interchanged in the projection units. Has it ever been in for service? If so was it performed byan authorized mitsubishi repair shop?

Check Your low voltage regulators next along with the Horizontal output. Your glass fuses were good you said but did you check the pica fuses?

Ok the 22 code is saying the set is Going into proetection due to a short. With your limited trouble shooting skills you will definatly need the manual so you will be able to locate the parts. You will also need an Ohms meter at the very least to start troubleshooting. Horizontal output is identified as Q501 stamp on the board. The voltage regulators look identical to that justvslightly smaller. You will need the service manual to go much farther. You can check a transistor for being open or shorted by removing it from the circuit and probing the pins you should get continuity one way but when you reverse lead on the same two pins you should not get any if you do its shorted. You can get the manual at this link. http://www.servicemanuals.net/

if you keep checking back I will try to walk you through the diagnosis. Just be careful inside the set. Look for swelled capacitors . Hope this helps.

Horizontal output will be near the flyback on a heat sink. Should be the largest 3 legged transistor. If I had the service manual for that set I could tell you for sure exactly where to find it. But I will almost bet its shorted.

Yes you have to remove it to test it properly. Let me know the numbers stamped on the case and I will let you know if thats the right transisitor or not. Do you know how to test it? If not let me know and i will explain how to check it with an Ohms meter.

If you have the service manual look at the power circuitry they should have test points with the voltage rquirements. See if your voltages are within the specified ranges. If not one of the regulators may be faulty.

Do you have access to the service manual? You will need it because some parts are hot ground and others are cold ground. Let me jnow if you have the service manual for your set.

Yes email it to slinteriors@yahoo.com and I will walk you through the diagnose steps.
