Question about Dyson DC11 All Floors Bagless Canister Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

How do you take the DC11 apart?

I'm trying to open up my DC11 to fix an intermittent problem with the power switch, and I can't figure out how! I've removed most plastic parts, and unscrewed the nine Torx screws, and I still can't separate the housing pieces. Is there a service manual for the thing?

Unplug the unit from any power first.

To get the unit apart you have to Carefully pry off the wheels from both sides of the unit to allow access to another 4 torx screws. Use a longer flat blade screw driver and insert this between the wheel and the body of the vacum as close to the wheels center of rotation as much as possible. This should allow you open the clamshell like case. Once inside you can test the power switch and connections. My switch tested good but there is a problem with the power cord that I am trying to determine.

I am trying to replace the cord but the cord reel assembly and cord seems tighly integrated so I may end up buying the replacement power cord assembly if it is available for purchase to the general public and not only service centers. I will try the plug into the wall assembly first as it is easier to replace.

Good luck

Can you replace dyson on/off switch dc05 turbobrush

There are a number of places that list replacement switches. There are also a number of DC05 models, though the power switch is not likely to vary across them. Amazon, for instance, has a Dyson Switch for models including the DC05 and six other models (see here
Dyson Switch Dc03 Dc04 Dc05 Dc07 Dc08 Dc11 Dc14 On Off )

This video (ostensibly for a DC08, but the procedure should be pretty much identical) shows how to take the unit apart, get at and test the on/off switch, and replace it if need-be.

Root cyclone 12 loss of suction. How do I solve as both filters have been cleaned

Hi Pat, it's Jack at Dyson.

Performance issues are usually simple to resolve. DC11 has two filters - the 2-part pre-filter (the yellow plastic outer casing the the blue foam inner section) should be washed at least once every three months. The post-filter is engineered to last the lifetime of the machine without maintenance or replacement. If you have washed the post-filter, unfortunately this may have caused damage and we would recommend replacing it.

It sounds as if your machine has a blockage somewhere in the floor tool, wand or hose. To locate and remove this please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

Dyson DC11 turbo head not spinning - it feels like the selector button has broken inside and is locked to not spin. is there a way to disasembel and maybe glue or fix the selector?

Hi Andrew, it's Jack at Dyson.

With the exception of the sole plate and brush bar, the Turbine head is manufactured as a complete assembly. We wouldn't recommend attempting to dismantle it as we can't guarantee this won't cause damage. You might want to take a look at our Support guide, as it may be possible to resolve the issue with some simple troubleshooting:

Reset dyson dc11 overload cut off

Hi there,

If your DC11 shut itself off during use, it may have overheated - you should find that it will run again after it's had at least 2 hours to cool down.

Although I note you've already checked for blockages, you may want to run through the steps shown in our online Support guide to make sure you haven't missed anything:

The filter may also need a wash. In normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.

Following these steps shown should prevent the issue from reoccurring. If you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

I've never worked on a DC11 but have worked on several types of Dyson uprights. The following may or may not be relevant to the DC11 but may give you a few clues.

On the uprights I've worked on, if you remove the dust canister, underneath it is a clip-on cover with what's known as a post motor filter under it. This varies between models from a simple fibre pad, to a plastic encased paper filter very similar to the one that goes in the top of the dust canister. Having removed the clip-on cover / pad / filter, there should be a few more screws that when released will allow the motor housing to be taken apart.

The site is excellent, but doesn't yet cover the DC11.

Incidentally, I've just repaired my fathers DC07 which appeared at first to be a brushes problem. When I got it apart, it became obvious that the motor armature had a worsening fault whereby it was overheating so badly the over-current trip on the motor kept cutting out. The overheating was so bad that the bottom of the post motor filter was actually burnt !
Searching on eBay, I found a complete replacement motor for £18 inc p&p, but no listing for brushes. You may therefore find a) it isnt the brushes and b) you cant buy the brushes separately anyway.

Good luck !
