HL-1440 Prints blank

All my printouts from my HL-1440 are blank. THey have some small amount of toner on them. When I check the drum, there is a line of toner in one spot. I have relpaced the toner cleaned the drum with the wirethingy on the carterage (it has a triangle on it). Don't know what to do.

Re: HL-1440 Prints blank

Actually, I found the solution and fixed my problem. It was an incompatible version of Adobe PDF with my OS. I have windows 2000 and had upgraded to Adobe 8. It turns out on a WIN2000 Adobe 5.5 is the recommended version. Until I upgrade to XP - or buy a Mac ;-), this is what is required so I can print a pdf.

It had nothing to do with the printer.

Re: HL-1440 Prints blank

Since you've already done the initial steps in troubleshooting the unit, another user serviceable solution it to replace the drum unit. Please note however that the drum unit is a expensive consumable part. It is best if you can test your unit using a known working drum unit. Beyond replacing the drum unit, the only option remaining is to have it professionally serviced. Blank print outs are classic symptoms of a main PCB failure, Laser unit failure and/or a loose wire harness. Please note that high voltage and current reside inside the printer. Please leave this tinkering to the professionals.

What is the cause of problem where my printer (HL 1440) prints with black smudges & streaks of ink on the paper.

sounds like a possible problem with possibly the drum or the transfer belt. trying a different toner cartridge may fix the problem but it may not. Most likely given the cost of repair, replacement may be your best option.
thank you,

Drum & toner were replaced and now the printer PRINTS IN CHARCOAL have replaced the drum and toner twice

I assume "Prints in charcoal" means dirty printouts. The toner is not staying on the paper?

Sounds to me like a bad "Fuser Assembly" problem.

Hi, I have this type of printer and there has been no problems..except.. i'm the new secretary and the golden drum light is on..never noticed if it was or has been always on..and the printing every 1 1/2...

Means toner cartridge is nearly to end. Just shake a little bit to distribute evenly the toner powder and be ready to purchase new toner cartridge. And is it nothing to do with the drum. Drum problem will create black shadow lines when printing.

Brother HL-1440 copies have light layer of toner on left side of

You are nearing time for a drum replacement. Here is link to the Brother site for your printer. Be careful when purchasing drums - I made the mistake of buying an after market drum kit and after 100 prints was replacing it again with a OEM part.

New cartridge prints very light

It is a possible drum issue, but before you get a new one remove the toner and drum and look up above where the drum sits inside. Use a dry soft cloth to wipe the narrow window that's above and try printing again. Toner save being turned on in printer properties will make lighter prints as well.

Hp 4300 laserjet. All printouts have a blank space

Remove the toner and wipe the small window that's above where the drum unit sits inside. That window gets covered with toner and makes light prints and blank areas.

Prints ok, but dirty page. Happened suddenly. No lights are on. HL 1440.

The problem is with the toner ow paper feeding. Proper feed the papers, if that dosn't solve you may have to change the toners. It is best that you put a new one. If that dosn't solve then thre cables must have got damaged. Send it to Repair.

Black horizontal lines in printout

Seems like the drum needs changing. This is the most common cause for print problems in these printers. If using the high yield TN 6600 toner then you need to change the drum every 3-4 toners. If using the low yield TN 6300 toner then the drum will need replacing every 6-7 toners. Hope this helps

Black streaks on printout page

It sounds like excess toner has built up in or around the imaging drum. I would *carefully* remove the toner and drum (can be messy) and use some canned air to clean the inside out. If you are still getting these streaks, it might be time to get a new drum (DR 400) as you are supposed to replace the drum every 6 to 8 times you change the toner cartridge.
