Question about Toshiba Portege S100-S1133 Notebook

1 Answer

Stop 0x0000007B I bought a Seagete Momentus 7200.2 200Gb drive for my Toshiba Portege S100 laptop. I cloned the old hard drive using Acronis True Image. The new hard drive boots into a 0x0000007B stop error. The same thing happens if I reinstall the system from the Toshiba system recovery CD. I ran checkdisk on it to no avail also scanned it for viruses. If I put the new drive into the expansion bay then it show up as healthy in Disk Management and works fine. So, I assume that the disk is not faulty. All advice gratefully appreciated.

My hard drive is not detected during fresh window installation in portege s 100- s1133 laptop.i dont have my back up CD for drivers.please help

You will likely need to go to Toshiba's website and find the driver for your drive controller. Save it to a USB flash drive, and load it during the Windows Installation by pressing F2 or F6 (whatever the prompt indicates) when it asks for additional drivers during installation.

I purchased a Western Digital EIDE 320GB hard to replace existing Toshiba 100GB hard drive. I cloned the old hard drive using Acronis software from Western Digital and when I placed the new hard drive in...

I have the same problem with my laptop. Here is my understanding of the problem.

Many laptops have a BIOS limit of 128GB hard drive capacity.
Try to find the latest BIOS available for the laptop, and see if it supports 48-bit LBA addressing of the hard drive.
If the BIOS only supports 24-bit LBA addressing, there are tools to restrict the size of the drive.

DISCLAIMER: I have read of Dynamic Drive Overlay (or Drive Dynamic Overlay) software, which is supposed to allow for the use of larger drives. I have not used one, so I do not know how well they work. I am sure they slow down access and, from what I have read, they do not work with Vista or Windows 7.

I am trying to replace hard drive with a larger one in a acer extensa 5420. Going from a 120Gb SATA (Vista pre- loaded) to a 320 GB SATA. Also having problems loading vista ultimate on new drive.

if you want you can try using acronis. its fairly simple and can handle your transition to the larger drive. are you upgrading to vista ultimate?

to handle the clone, download the acronis and it has a trial 15 day version. have a usb to sata connector available, you can pick this up for about 20 dollars at most computer places. turn on your computer normally and attach the new drive to the usb connector and let it load up in device manager. then from there load your acronis, in acronis select the tools/utilities and select clone hard drive, leave everything standard and it will start the process, it will ask you to reboot and from there clone your existing hard drive as is only on a larger partition size now. if you are comfortable with acronis you can change partition sizes if you like to suit you. what kind of problems are you having with vista ultimate?
