The Remington ES-1000 was probably the best slot-head shaver ever made by Remington. I cannot believe that the market demand was so low as to prompt a cancellation of production. I believe that the production run was limited to about 4 years or so. I have 8 of these shavers and keep a couple old Remington slot heads around as well. The ES-1000 was not perfect. The batteries were way too small and stressed so battery life was poor. You could not buy individual blades as you could with past Remington slot-head units. Also, the edge of the head was too exposed and sharp and when used for body shaving would tend to cut the skin.Slot-head shavers are superior for body shaving and for skin that is suseptible to shaving bumps. They are also great for young men that are prone to ingrown hairs. My guess is that the Norelco 3 head has taken it's place. Those shavers actually use 3 small slot heads. Rumor has it that shavers.com is trying to have a new slot head manufactured in Asia.

This shaver was pretty clearly not designed for battery replacement. To open, first remove the screen and blades, and unhook the metal collar from the tab on the back of the case. Then carefully pry off the black inset on the front of the shaver. Underneath it, near the bottom are two screws. Remove these. The case is now only held together by several plastic latches, which can be carefully pried apart with a small screwdriver. The two 2/3A size batteries are soldered to the printed circuit board, which can be pulled out (don't break the wires to the motor) by a little wiggling. The original batteries in mine are 1100mAh, and I have just ordered 1600mAh replacements. The new ones don't have tabs - so soldering them in place is probably going to be a challenge.
Good luck.

Just spoke with Remington customer service as I've been having the same problem of once the heads are off, you can't get them to stay back on. They apparently have created a brand new "head" piece that will solve the problem because they had so many complaints. As long as you registered your razor, just call Remington and choose the option for Warranty issues. Tell them your problem and they will mail you the new head which is promised to resolve the issue and make things work easier.
