Turning the handle counter clockwise unlocked the developer unit. I eventually discovered that I had to squeeze two plastic tabs together that were above the collection bottle before I could slide the unit out. It took a long time to empty the unit carefully. Fortunately I have little computer cleaning brushes attached to a long flexible plastic tube I can connect to a regular vacuum which were very useful in cleaning the machine and the unit. I put the new developer in making sure it was spread the whole length of the unit (after removing the plastic cover over the unit. Pushing the handle back in so I could close the cover was a bit tricky. Folding the handle to the left (after trying several times) allowed me to close the front cover so it was flush on the right as well as the left. Before I figured out how to get the cover fully closed, I could run to copier, but got blanks on the copies until I finally had the handle properly seated (folding to the left) so the cover would close completely on the right as well as the left. This is a very messy job, and having covers on the floor as well as a trash can with trash liners is necessary. I went through 3 trash bags not because I filled them up, but to cut down on the mess getting out of control and to minimize the filings/toner from getting into the air.
