Question about Dell INSPIRON 6000 CENTRINO 1.7GHZ,512mb,40GB,DVDRW,XP (086216118098) PC Notebook
Attempted to boot up OS on Dell Inspiron 6000 - Windows XP splash screen displays on laptop monitor, but then goes to black screen. OS completely loads (I can hear Windows startup sound, etc.). If hook up external monitor, can see and access everything.
Attemped to boot up to last known good whatever - same problem
Attempted to boot up OS in Safe mode, then can see everything on laptop monitor.
Attempted to perform system restore - won't restore to previous dates
Viewed Device Manager - no bangs or question marks
Looked at video driver and monitor settings - they haven't been altered, so cannot roll back to previous driver (Adapter = ATI Mobility Radeon X300, Monitor = "default monitor")
When displayed on external monitor, hit FN+F8 on laptop, which is for CRT/LCD - nothing displays on laptop
Checked the switch that disables the display when the laptop is closed - nothing looks to be awry
Screen resolution is set to what it has always been set
I don't understand how it could be a hardware or driver problem if I am able to see everything when booted in safe mode. Reinstalling windows does not seem reasonable to me since I am using that installation of windows right now to post my question (via the external monitor, of course).
Please help if you can!!
Well it is most likely a issue with the Video driver as you are able to boot to the safe mode.I would suggest going back to the safe mode and deleting the present driver for the video from the device manager.before you restart the system just download the latest version from the support.dell.com so that you can reinstall it.Also check in the graphic properties which screen is set to be the defuat.Incase still not working i would suggest reinstalling the operating system before replacing any hardware.
