Automatic Button Hole

Does anyone know how to easily use the automatic button hole? I am having trouble making a complete button hole. It does not make the hole automatically. I have to manually turn the fabric in order to make it look like a button hole. According to the manual, the machine is supposed to make it automatically. Any suggestions/

The top of the button hole is perfect, the button angles out and never connects the two lines together.

Hi, Could I get a copy of your manual? I rec'd my mom's Janome Harmony 2049 when she passed away in Dec but no manual was found. Thank you! nreublin@jps.net

How do I make buttonholes on the Bernina 180?

I don't know about your Bernina but mine you have to manually set the button hole size every time you do a new button hole size. Practice on a scrap bit of fabric. I think you push the buttonhole button - sew which I think does an end, push the button again, sew for the distance forward you need and push the button again, and sew the other end and push the button again and it should go back to the beginning. That's off the top of my head, I could be wrong but try it on scrap. I think it might then have set the size until you change stitch types and it should continue to do the same amount of forward and back stitches with each button press to tell it to go forward, end, back, end etc. But practice! My machine has trouble feeding the fabric evenly.

How to make a button hole

I don't know that machine, but generally on older machines, you put a buttonhole foot on the machine, set one of the buttons in the back-end of the slot so that it adjusts the size needed automatically. Then you set the machine stitch setting on 1 and set the width to make a satin stitch (a close zig-zag) down one side of buttonhole. You sew until the buttonhole foot makes the button hit near the foot; it will stop you, basically. Then you change stitch dial to 2 to make the bottom of the buttonhole, then 3 to make the other side, then 4 to make the top side. Then you remove the fabric and cut open the buttonhole (I use FrayCheck fist) Try some buttonholes on scrap fabric first, you will figure it out by trial and error.
If your machine is newer, they automatically can sew a buttonhole, but each one does it differently, Sorry.

Make sure the plug from the buttonhole foot is going all the way in when you insert it. If that doesnt correct it, then the foot may be bad.

Insert the button into the special button hole foot. put the foot on the machine.Pull down the button hole lever( It's near the presser foot lever towards the back of the machine). Place your needle where you want the button hole to be. Select the button hole pattern and press on the pedal. Watch for the end of the button hole.

Kenmore 385 model Automatic Button Hole Apparatus Jams Thread?

Practice and practice some more! Use the same fabric and interfacing as your project and a NEW needle (the correct needle) This is for the Sears Kenmore 385 automatic button hole maker. Make sure you pull the bobbin thread through the Guide Block - it is that simple. Make sure you pull your thread to the back of the machine though the presser foot slot - the correct presser foot. Account for both thread tails before starting to sew. Keep thread tails to the back of the machine 4-5", insert fabric under presser foot keeping thread tails clear. Mark button hole and sew.
