I have an Acer am5100-u5301a. Is there a bios upgrade that will allow me to add the other gig of ram that the specs say my system is capable of. Running 3g now, and when I add the other gig I get a black screen on reboot. Turns out this is a problem with the AMD690g chipset.
If the specs read that you can operate with 4GB of RAM, then I believe the AMD690g chipset is not the culprit.
The RAM that you're adding may be defective, or incompatible with the existing RAM.
Another possibility could be a bad RAM socket.
I also doubt you would get a black screen due to adding more RAM than the system is capable of handling, it would still start, but would not utilize the additional RAM.
Black screen usually means bad RAM or incompatible RAM or bad socket

skype calls break up after couple minutes. While I can still hear the person I am calling, he only hears very much noise and the call is breaking up.
