Right click on "my computer"
click "properties"
go to hardware tab and click on "Device Manager"
scroll down to the sound card and open your sound card properties and roll back the drivers.

Sorry if this seems elementary, but do you have a speaker Icon in the system tray(the area by the clock)?

If so, click on it and make sure it is not muted or turned all the way down.

Dont get sound to my inspiron b130, after fresh install of windows xp. how do i solve the problem??

Without further details its a little tricky to diagnose.

In my opinion, it its most likely due to a driver not installed with the XP version you just put on.

Dell have a great online database of drivers and update packs you can use when fresh installing a new OS.

Try here:

http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&cat=sup&k=inspiron+b130+drivers&rpp=12&p=1&rf=all&nk=f&sort=K&ira=False&~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False&~ck=related

Of course, if you've installed a aftermarket sound card, check out the manufacturers website for a compatible driver.

Make sure you're downloading the driver for hte right version of XP (service pack 1,2 & 32bit / 64bit) to ensure compatibility.

Good Luck!

Dell inspiron b130 laptop overheats and shuts down after about 1 hour of working... when I can start again it gives me a M104 error, but works again until the next time it over heats...

Sounds like your fan is blocked with dust, or it may be broken.
Google "cleaning laptop fan".
This is lots of great guides and youtube videos showing you what you need to do

Inspiron B130 shuts down after about 5 seconds

Sounds like a bad AC adapter not charging the system. If a known good adapter has the same issue (Or this adapter works on another system) then it is a motherboard replacement

No Sound! HELP ME PLEASE!...Dell laptop Inspiron-SigmaTel Audio, running XP

Joey, Be sure to use the Dell website to search for your problem. "B130 no audio device found?" or whatever the message is. Had exactly the same problem and it was do to a switch turned off, I think in the Computer Administration folder. I cannot rember what itwas, but I believe you can find the answer. There are 266 Search Results for B130 no sound device search on the Dell community site.
