Normally there is a fuse that can be replaced inside on the power supply board. The are usually "slow blow" fuses and need to be replaced by an equivalent fuse. Many monitors have a soft switch which is controlled by the main board that tells the relays to supply power from the power supply. The CMOS devices on these boards are very suceptible to static so ground your hand to the chassis before touching any boards. If the backlight is out but there is a faint image on the screen when you look at it closely then the inverter board or CFT tubes are suspect. BTW: watch the Power supply and inverter boards as the caps stay charged and could result in electrical shock. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Our View Sonic VG810 LCD Monitor just stopped working. No green indicator light, changed out both the cable and the AC wire, no change. Plugged in another monitor using the same cable/wire and that monitor...

Probably failed caps in the power supply/inverter boards.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

After changing old model monitor for Samsung SyncMaster 740N 17'' inch model monitor it doesn't display at all, only amber light dims intermittent.

First, try it on another PC first.
Second, the video resolution of your PC should be set to 1280 x 1024 @60Hertz.
Unless it has problem inside, then you will need to open it up.

Moved my computer to another room and when starting up the monitor has no power. I tried changing cords and outlets and still no power. Is this the end of the line?

It may have been coincident. For a 4 years old monitor, the power supply may have failed.

Hi I have an Acer AL1916 that is not powering up, there is no light on the switch, is there anything I can do, like fuses to check etc? Regards Alan

Sorry no fuses that can be changed. Often it is just the power supply going on the fritz, take it in for repair, due to the cost of monitors repairs are usually very reasonable, as long as you find, a place that specializes in Monitor repair, it will be OK. Anyway you can always ask for a "Quote" and decide as to repair or replace,

Got an HP vs17 monitor. It doesn't power on at all - no blue light when the power button is pushed. I opened it up and don't see any obviously bad caps on the power supply. What next? Fuses?

trace voltage in power supply area. it must have output if none, replace voltage regulator and locate diode / resistor change value.
