Normally there is a fuse that can be replaced inside on the power supply board. The are usually "slow blow" fuses and need to be replaced by an equivalent fuse. Many monitors have a soft switch which is controlled by the main board that tells the relays to supply power from the power supply. The CMOS devices on these boards are very suceptible to static so ground your hand to the chassis before touching any boards. If the backlight is out but there is a faint image on the screen when you look at it closely then the inverter board or CFT tubes are suspect. BTW: watch the Power supply and inverter boards as the caps stay charged and could result in electrical shock. Good luck. Hope this helps.

When you turn on the main power socket to the monitor, does the front LED turn come on (Green/Orange)? If not, try changing the power cord or the fuse inside the power cord.

There is no key to use for opening the case. Please see the service manuals here:

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

The power went out twice in a one hour period a couple of days ago. After the second outage, my monitor would not come back on. Unfortunately, I had removed it from the surge protector to plug something...

1) Have you checked the fuse in the mains plug ?

2) There may also be a secondary fuse, inside the monitor (don't as me how to dismantle it, all I know is carefully) on the main cct board near to the power in socket.

Your minitors power supply is now damaged, probably from the power outage. I t will need to be repaired or replaced. Check the cost and benifits of both options and make a discision.
