HD went bad on this HP Pavilion a220n. I have a copy of Windows XP Pro that I want to install on it. The Bios sees the drive but I couldn't get XP to load due to the application saying the partition is incorrect. I partitioned the drive in a Dell Dimension with the XP disk. I then tried to load XP onto the new drive in the HP and it still says the partition is wrong and won't install. I partititioned it as NTFS.
Your new hard drive has a name, like Seagate, Western Digtail, bla, bla... Go to the Mfg's web site for your drive. Download the bootable floppy disk manager setup utilities. If you have a floppy disk drive. If you don't have a floppy drive most Mfg's allow you to make a bootable CD. Lastly or maybe I should have mentioned this first. Make sure your drive is pinned out correctly. I'm only guessing you bought an IDE drive which has a jumper for setting the drive as a master or a slave or a master with a slave.
