Question about Canon i860 InkJet Photo Printer
Whe power is applied, the printer sounds like it is trying to initialize, but there is no print head movement. Then I get what I assume is a "service call" error with the power LED blinking one green then four orange flashes. This continues to repeat and pressing the "resume" button has no effect. I have tried to enter the "Service Mode" by following the OEM manual instructions, but the printer does not respond. Can't find a good parts source for either the logic board assembly, or the purge unit which the manual indicates is probably causing the malfunction if this is in fact a "service call" error. Would appreciate your thoughts and recommendations on further troubleshooting, disassembly, and procurement of parts.

Hi i am a certified Canon tech for a repair shop on the east coast of the united states. by what u are describing the problem seem to be with the purge unit that it is not spining to release the carridge unit. this could be due to something stuck in the purge unit or in its gears. if you take the top cover off the machine on the right side is the purge unit towards the back of the unit is a white release that has to be pushed down inorder to move the carridge unit. once that is released you can look into the purge and check for things jammed in the gears or obstructing the up and down operation of the purge pad and the back and forth operation of the wiper assy. if everything looks normal the purge unit most likely is still at fault and can be purched for 30-40 dollars plus shipping.
