Sounds like the motor is going out. 2.7s are bad about rod bearings going out. If you don't use the correct weight oil, and change it every 3K, they don't hold up too well.
Sounds like a throw out bearing or pressure plate problem. Run it by a trany shop, and they should be able to tell quick and easily if that's the problem.
Almost sounds like a throwout bearing problem. Either way, bring the car back and make them fix it. It will be covered under the warranty so dont let them try to convince you otherwise.
