My belkin g+ wireless card stopped working. I tried reinstalling but then the pc didn't even recognise the hardware. I got a new card, uninstalled all the old stuff and reinstalled the new. The pc now recognises the hardware and the yellow light is on in the card but the card doesn't pick up the router as a wireless network. The router works fine when it's attached with a network cable. Help please!!!!
Thanks
Mel

Hi
The router is supplied by Sky, it's Netgear but doesn't say which model. I think it's broadcasting the SSID and has been enabled as it has worked before however I'm not sure how to check this. Device manager says the card is working properly.
Thanks

Hello
Thanks for all the advice. I managed to access the router (although the password was 'sky' for future reference) and after some faffing about it's working!!! Not quite sure how or why!! Will definitely leave feedback, sometimes a gentle shove in the right direct does the trick.
What router brand/model do you have. Is it set up to broadcast it's SSID? Has encryption been enabled on the router?
Have you used Device Manager to make sure the new wireless card is operating properly.
I hope you'll answer these questions and let me try to help before you rate this...

These routers have an IP address and a webserver built right in. You need to connect to the router with an ethernet wire in order to talk to the router since the card is unable to right now. The default IP address for Netgear routers is 192.168.0.1. Once you're hooked up to the router with an ethernet cable start Internet explorer and type that address in the Address bar. A username/password box should popup. The defaults are:
Username: admin
Password: password
If Sky sets up different defaults then you'll need to contact them to be able to communicate with the router. Once you've connected to the router in this way you'll need to poke around to see if SSID broadcast is enabled and if wireless encryption is enabled. If encryption is enabled you should be able to see the key on the router's webserver. If you can't find this stuff let me know. I'll try to find the manual for a Netgear router so I can give you better directions.
The SSID broadcast does not need to be on, but if it's off, you need to know the name of your network in order to connect the PC wirelessly. If it's brodcasting you can just select it on your PC. Turning broadcast off is done to add more security, but if you have encryption enabled then I would not really worry too much.
I want you to know I'm not paid for this. It's a strange hobby I know, but I like to help when I can. If you find any of this helpful I hope you'll rate this positively. About half of the solutions I've posted have never even been rated. If you have more questions just let me know. Thanks and good luck.
