I believe the warranty on the gearcase is actually 2 years. You can contact Whirlpool at 1-800-253-1301 to confirm.

If your washer is older than two years and you require a gearcase replacement, you can perform the repair yourself for about $150 if you wish to avoid purchasing a new washer. You can order the part on line at pcappliancerepair.com. The part number is 3360629. The following link explains step-by-step how to replace the gearcase if you wish to pursue the repair on your own:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r699497-replacing_gearcase

NOTE: You can also order a refurbished gearcase at searspartsdirect.com for about $110. The part number is 3360629R.

This is not a difficult repair, but it can be time consuming if this is the first time you've attempted a repair like this. These machines are designed to easily affect repairs. Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions. I hope I've given you enough information to make your decision.

PS The quote you have is a bit high. Although the repair is still expensive, it usually runs about $300 if you have a repairman perform this job. Replacing a gearcase by a professional can be accomplished in less than an hour.

Outside of fluid and filter change... is there a list of ideas for fixing eng code p0700 o 98 cherokee. I know you said TCM. Is there anything else as I have read so many diff. "Fixes". All lights on

the code p 0700 refers to transmission control system /MIL--malfunction====causes -- wiring---TCM
that is from OBD-11 trouble codes table from the autodata fault codes book
There have been numerous debates on transmission faults where many point to the wiring being at fault ( broken, shorting or not making contact in the connections
Around the year 1998 there was a popular use of dexron ATF-2 as transmission oil but many manufacturers found from warranty claims that the particular oil was not wholly compatible with the electronic cable insulation which resulted in many fault codes being generated concerning the transmission
If you care to do some research you will find that many manufacturers state a particular oil for the automatic transmissions to eliminate this problem
I might suggest a long talk with an accredited transmission shop that specialises in your make of box as to the faults that you are experiencing and what would be a better oil to use if the current oil is just acceptable
Talk is cheap and if a new box is suggested then get more ideas and quotes from other shops
shy away from the local mechanic as you really need expert advice before you spend money.

Leaky rear main seal

I bought a 2000 RL used, with some factory warranty remaining, and then bought an extended warranty. While hnder warranty, car began to smell up my garage from fumes from oil dripping onto hot exhaust. Not enough oil at that point to show up on garage floor. Complained to dealer about the odor but Acura Master Mechanic (said he) couldn't find source of odor (although I told him I suspected an oil leak because I had prior experience with oil leaks and resultant smells on another car). On the next service visit after the extended warranty expired, same master mechanic said my RL's rear main oil seal was leaking onto exhaust causing odor. And the dealer wanted north of $1000 to fix it. I declined. Leak has steadily gotten worse - now visible drops on garage floor. An independent repair shop quoted $650 plus the cost of replacing expensive, special Honda transmission fluid. Took my complaint all the way up the chain to the head of Honda in Japan, but got no assistance. No more Honda products for me.

Got oil change done at Jiffy Lube. I got my transmission flushed & refilled last month. Now Jiffy Lube is saying I got a little transmission leak caused by wear & tear. How much you think it should...

unfortunately sometimes when you get the engine or transmission flushed it can cause an oil leak I don't know what it will cost but I would be getting other quotes & get the work done at the cheapest quote, it pays to shop around........hope this helps......cheers.

2005 rmz 450 is leaking oil from the cylinder head cover just from the right side which caused overheating. is it time for a new gasket?

Tighten down the cover. If that does not stop the leak then a new gasket would be in order. I doubt the leak has anything to do with any overheating unless it lowered the transmission oil level quite a bit. The "overheating" may just be the oil on the cylinder naturally burning away.

Do I need to change transmission fluid on my 2005 ford freestyle

The high pressure filter and fluid are supposed to be changed at 60k intervals. Ford has a very specific oil for this transmission and the service fee will be $300 to $450 - mine was around $420.

No other car place will touch the CVS transmission in a Ford Freestyle and most Ford dealerships are clueless on thier maintenance and repairs. On most issues that crop up the first thing they want to do is swap it out - for $4000+.

My washer is leaking grease or oil on the floor under the machine

Hello and welcome

You said, My GE washer is leaking a tan colored oil underneath the unit. I suspect it's the gear case leaking. How difficult is it to replace the gasket or seal. I like to fix things and have tools. If the gear oil is leaking this usually means the transmission is shot and on it's way out. It is not cost efficient to have it replaced. 99.9 % of the time you throw it out and buy a new washer.
For the cost of the Transmission and the labor.
you can buy a new washer.
How old is the washer ?

Here is an interesting report I just read!!!!!!!!!!

Repair or replace?

When to pull the plug on your old washer

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your washer,
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your washer is under warranty or less than four years old ,
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that washers under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your washer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new washer.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive washer
eight or more years old.

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of washers you replace are likely to end up in a landfill.
