Question about Proscan PS36123 TV

1 Answer

Line through the middle

When we turn on our tv ,the picture is shrunk to a line in the middle of a black screen on the set. After turning it on and off a few times the line expands to a full screen picture perfect. It seems to be getting worse and now after an hour or so it goes back to the original problem, but at this point turning it on and off doesn't correct it. We need to let it rest a few hours and then do it again.
Is this a costly repair or a common problem? It is 10 years old. Is there othe problems ahead for this model? Your help and suggestions are respected.

Re: line through the middle

Socer, solder connections on the vertical output IC are broken, board has to be taken out and re-solderering the pins on the vertical IC will fix it easy job for a tv tech, good luck, BMW Rider

I turned my television on then it made the tv frame made a noise!and now the screen is black except for this thin line across the middle of the screen which is display the picture

Most likely the vertical oscillator circuit has failed. As CRT televisions have gone the way of the dinosaur, my advice to you is to give a fond adieu and invest in a new TV.

I turn on the TV and there is only a line going across the middle of the TV. The sounds work the same but there is no picture. It seems as if the picture had shrunk to a very thin line that just goes...

this is commonly known as a frame colapse and could have two possable causes (1) no 28volts comming from the l.o.p.t.x or in english the line output transformer ,to the frame output i/c ,usualy caused by an inline fuse blowing this looks like a very small transistor but with only two legs or (2)the frame output i/c has packed up

TV: bright line across black screen for several hours.

vertical output ic needs to be resoldered. careful leaving that bright line displayed on the screen as this will cause a permanent phosphor burn into the tube. this can not be corrected once burned unless you replace the tube. mch

Av-32f476 picture shrinkage

I had a Crummy Westinghouse TV that had a problem like this. JVC's are typically better built then a Westinghouse. My first educated guess - sounds like it's a voltage issue, most likely on the high voltage. Probably a capacitor on the power supply side of the motherboard or the capacitor in the flyback transformer. Just and educated guess.

Black screen, high pitched squeal

A set that has only a 1/2 inch bright line through the middle of the picture, from left to right, has a vertical output IC that is not working correctly. If the 1/2 inch line is in the middle but going up and down, then the horizontal yoke circuit has stopped working. These are problems which should be looked at by a qualified tech, but if the set was purchased 6 months ago then it should still be under the manufacturer's warranty.
