hi my projector was purchased in 2004 and has clocked over 5000 hours with one bulb, i decided to replace the bulb as the picture was deteriarating the projector ran on standard power for the last 2000 hours of its life and the unit started to not power up when switched on, it tended to whistle and the fan sounded like it was blowing very quickly, i replaced the bulb this morning and the picture has improved perfectly, although i am satisfied the unit still refuses to activate when i switch it on at first, after 2-3 attempts it runs but still whistles at first, originaly it started first time every time. have you any idea why this is happening or what can i do to ammend the problem.
I have a similar problem, and it seems to be getting worse. I'm not sure how old it is, but the S20 was in my house when i bought it a year ago. When i try and turn it on, it sounds like it's trying to power up then stops. It makes this whistling/humming sound off and on again and then eventually gets going. But, sometimes it gives a picture, others i get a snowy screen. The time log for the lamp shows only 500 hours of use. The lamp should be OK. Right?
I have the same problem. The whistle is the color wheel turn on and off. It is the power control issue.
The power supply try to send cntro power to the wheel and the lamp.
More likely is the capacitor leaking is the power supply.
Contact dealer for replacement part.

There is another problem that I encountered with this projector. I took the lamp out to clean and see how it worked, then when I put it back in, it must not have been centered right. Shortly after, the projector made a startling loud buzzing sound. It turns out that if the lamp is allowed to shine into the projector off center for too long, the beam hits a small piece of sheet metal just past the color wheel, causing the metal to warp. The buzzing sound is the metal rubbing against the spinning color wheel.

both of you have fan and cooling issues. The fans are dirty and that is why they whistle. Try dust off or highly compressed air and blow them out really good and long. This should help. BTW the life expectancy of the projectors are avg. 5000-6000 hours total lifetime.
