Both the freezer and refrigerator will not stay cold enough, unit is about 5 yrs old. Both sides are warming up, it just won't stay cold enough on either side. I took everything out and let it defrost for 24 hours and everything went back to working for about 2 weeks then it started warming back up. Please help

you must have a defrost problem, open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing,if not change evap fan motor, remove second from bottom bin and touch the back wall if you feel ice or snow there you have a defrost problem check the t-stat and heater, not sure but if you read the tech sheet i think you can click the light switches to put into defrost, also if plugs are on t-stat,unplug them and bypass the t-stat by pluging the wire to the heater,if heater comes on then you have bad t-stat if not read out heater with meter, also ge has been having alot of problems with the mother board ,if you defrosted it and it happened again in a 2 week period i dout it's the board

- i want to tell you that you should call in tech to check out your machine,on the newer ge models there are thermistors,it could be the main board but you also have to change the thermistor that is next to the evap coil

Since this is a recurring problem, let it be check by
refrigeration technician who have the tools for checking
it up, such as compound gauge gas analyzer for the
refrigerant, pinching tools, brazing tools. Actual check up of the refrigerant level, load test (ampere drawn)
But for the mean time, you may have it defrosted, and clean up the condenser.
